‘Wire-free’ Network Interconnections
A corporation has several large offices in the city
centre within proximity of each other and needs to
find the most cost-effective method of
interconnecting them. Leased line services are
expensive and dial-up services dont support
bandwidth requirement. Further investigations
confirmed that line-of-sight between offices is
achievable and that access to roof-tops for mounting
antennae is available. Going wireless between these
sites was the obvious choice as it offered high-
bandwidth, only involved a one-off set-up cost with
no recurring fees and didnt require any licensing.
AT-WA7500 WiFi access points with different
antennae options are deployed in Point-to-Multipoint
topology to provide the connections over radio
waves. Depending on specific environments, multiples
of E1-like performance can be achieved on such links.
To secure the connections from eavesdropping, IPSec
3DES encryption is implemented over the wireless
connection by deploying AT-AR410 routers,
configured with the VPN option, behind each Access
Point.
