1 Introduction 1.1 Scope of the Manual This instruction manual explains the features, installation, startup and maintenance of Argus Technologies’ Tempest Te41 Outdoor Power Enclosure System. Enclosure system specifications may be found in Argus document #029-029-B1. Operation instructions for the system controller and related modules will be provided within their own manuals. NOTE: Images contained in this document are for illustrative purposes only and may not exactly match your installation.
2 Features 2.1 Power Equipment Compartment The fan-cooled power equipment compartment includes two rectifier shelves, a modular system controller, DC distribution center, alarm wiring block and an internal AC load center for the air conditioner and the GFCI convenience outlet (located in lower compartment).
2.3 Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) 2.3.1 Power Equipment Compartment An electronically-controlled assembly (of six fans) provides filtered ambient air-cooling to the power equipment compartment. The air passes through a two-stage filter. See 10.2. 2.3.2 Battery/Customer Equipment Compartment A 4000 BTU air conditioner/heater package provides battery and customer equipment cooling/heating. 2.
3 Accessories (Options) 3.1 Additional Cordex Rectifier Shelf See Cordex rectifier manual included with the system documentation package. 3.2 Equipment Mounting Slides Optional equipment mounting slides can be added to the system in the battery/customer equipment compartment. Figure 4–Equipment mounting slide (2PL) 3.3 Battery Shelves Battery shelves are designed to accommodate different battery manufacturers as shown in the following table: Battery Manufacturer/Number Height mm (in.
3.5 External AC Load Center The optional external AC load center will come complete with its own manual (included with the system documentation package). 3.6 Equipment Folding Table An optional equipment folding table can be added to the system on the inside of the battery/customer equipment compartment door. Figure 5–Equipment folding table 3.7 Cable Bridge Interface An optional cable bridge interface installation kit can be mounted on either the left or right side near the top of the enclosure.
4 Transportation and Storage 4.1.1 Packaging The enclosure and components are shipped on individual pallets and shrink wrapped. The enclosures and components cannot be stacked. The pallet is approximately 0.15m H x 1.22m W x 1.22m D (6” H x 48” W x 48” D) and the overall height including pallet and enclosure is approximately 2.3m (91”). For the optional external AC load center, the pallet will have a depth of 1.52m (60”).
5 Enclosure Installation 5.1 Site Considerations The information in this section is intended as a guideline only; there may be site-specific requirements and other factors that will require individual attention, such as jurisdictional codes and construction covenants. 5.1.1 Site Selection The supporting structure must be designed to support a fully configured enclosure. This will require a concrete slab and any existing structures to be properly reinforced to support the floor loading.
5.4 Enclosure Mounting See enclosed drawing for mounting hole layout. 5.4.1 Concrete Pad Cast-in-place or pre-cast concrete slabs can be used. Install isolation pad to prevent moisture ingress. Place the enclosure on the concrete slab and secure with Hilti HSL heavy-duty expansion anchor bolts or approved equivalent.

5.7 Top Hat Installation (Option) See enclosed drawings for top hat kit assembly. NOTE: It is recommended that this kit be installed prior to installing an adjacent enclosure.
6 Grounding, Wiring and Connections This section is provided for qualified personnel to install and interconnect the power components within the Argus Outdoor Enclosure. Regarding battery installation, refer primarily to the manufacturer’s guidelines for more specific information. 6.1 Tools Required Various insulated tools are essential for DC power system installation.
6.2 Grounding DANGER An enclosure that is not properly grounded can present an electrical hazard. A proper grounding system that meets or exceeds the specifications of the equipment must be designed and installed prior to or in conjunction with the construction of the mounting scenario. The ground system must be bonded to the enclosure to ensure a “Common” or “Single-Point” Ground; some examples are: New builds – Buried ground ring with bare solid conductor to ground rods.
6.3.1 Internal Front Access AC Load Center option The internal AC load center is not included when there is an external AC panel. The internal AC load center is fed from the front access terminal block 120V connection, distributing power to auxiliary equipment; such as, air conditioner and GFCI convenience outlet via two (2) 15A single pole breakers . This is located in the power equipment compartment in the front upper right corner. 6.3.
5. Connect wire cables to the main lugs located at the top, inside load center, as follows: a. Black to L1 (Line 1 connection), b. Red to L2 (Line 2 connection), c. White to N (to neutral connection on circuit breaker interior assembly neutral bus bar), d. Green or bare copper to equipment ground bar.
6.4 Alarm Connections Route alarm cable through the bridge interface to the adjacent enclosure as necessary. See enclosed schematic for alarm connection details. NOTE: If necessary, configuration changes can be made at the alarm wiring block. 6.5 Battery Temperature Sensor Cables Battery temperature compensation cables are provided for installation when batteries are installed.

7 Battery Installation NOTE: Battery trays are optional in this system. Please disregard this section if batteries are not to be installed. WARNING Follow battery manufacturer’s safety recommendations when working around battery systems and review the safety instructions provided in this manual. 7.1 Preparation/Mounting The enclosure must be mounted (Section 5) before installation of the bottom tray of batteries may be completed. Batteries should be located in a temperature-controlled environment; i.e.
7.2 Installation of Batteries in Argus Tempest Power Systems Verify that all battery breakers, DC circuit breakers, and fuses on the distribution panels are either in the OFF position or removed. For each of the following steps, verify that the rubber terminal caps / plastic covers are on and are completely covering the positive and negative terminal connections. Use a corrosion-inhibiting agent, such as NO-OX-ID “A”¥, on all battery terminal connections. 1. Check the battery block voltage (typically >12.

8 System Startup After completing the enclosure installation and power system wiring, perform the following startup and test procedure to ensure proper operation: 8.1 Check System Connections x x 8.2 Verify AC and Power the Rectifier Shelf x x x x 8.3 Install one power rectifier module. Verify AC input voltage is correct and turn on the corresponding feeder breaker. The power module OK LED should illuminate after a preset start delay.
9 Test and Commissioning (Overview) 9.1 System All Argus power system components undergo thorough factory testing. All levels/alarms are set to predetermined values as detailed in their individual component manuals except where custom levels are specified. Good installation practice is to check the operation of all features and alarms and to set the power system levels in accordance with the specific requirements of your system.
10 Maintenance Regular maintenance is required with Argus outdoor enclosures. Checks and adjustments are recommended to ensure optimum system performance. Qualified service personnel should do repairs. The following table lists a few maintenance procedures for this system. WARNING: HIGH VOLTAGE AND SHOCK HAZARD. Use extreme care when working inside the enclosure/shelf while the system is energized. Do not make contact with live components or parts.
10.3.3 High Temperature Alarms and Air Conditioner Failures The air conditioner is factory programmed however not every unit is checked for continual operation. If the air conditioner is failing, refer to the air conditioner manual and check settings. If the air conditioner is working and a "Hi-Temp" alarm is reported, check that the enclosure's Hi-Temp alarm thermostat (in the battery compartment) is set per Section 11. 10.

12 Argus Conventions 12.1 Numbering System Argus Technologies uses an eight-digit drawing number system, which is broken into three blocks. The first three digits describe the category of the product; e.g., rectifier or fuse panel. The next three digits indicate the sequence in which the product number was allocated in a particular category.
