INSTALLATION FLAMMABLE MATERIAL WARNING Keep device at least 5.0 feet (1.5m) away from any flammable materials, decorations, pyrotechnics, etc. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS A qualified electrician should be used for all electrical connections and/or installations. DO NOT INSTALL THE DEVICE IF YOU ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO DO SO! Device MUST be installed following all local, national, and country commercial electrical and construction codes and regulations.
SYSTEM MENU The LCD control display located on the front of the device provides access to the main system menu where all necessary system adjustments are made to the device. During normal operation, pressing the MENU button at any time will allow you to select from a list of system menu items or settings to view or change. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to scroll through the list of menu items. Press the ENTER button to go to the menu item shown on the bottom line of the LCD display.
Initial Power On When the 4 Stream DMX Bridge is powered ON for the first time, it will be configured in the default mode. It will create a local Wi-Fi access point, which should be available to any Wi-Fi equipped device, and appear in a list of local networks as ADJ 4 Stream DMX. The default password is 4 Stream. Join this network from the Wi-Fi equipped device in the normal fashion. The default DMX512 network protocol is Art-Net.
C O N F I G U R AT I O N S E T T I N G S WIFLY Settings Press the MENU button and the LCD displays the following message. Select menu item Wifly settings WiFly settings include two adjustable fields, on/off, and the wireless radio Channel (0-14). Use the UP or DOWN buttons to change the settings, or press the ENTER button to move the underline cursor to the desired field to change. Read the Interference and Channel Selection section, which provides more information on wireless channel selection.
Protocol Select the desired network protocol to control the bridge from a compatible lighting control application. Select between sACN and Art-Net. All four DMX universes will use this protocol. The default selection under Protocol is Streaming ACN; use the up or down arrow to switch between that or Art-Net as seen below. uWhen making this setting change, a system reset is required.
Art-Net Universe When selecting the Art-Net protocol, the Net and Sub-Net addresses for the bridge can be selected. This is an address Art-Net uses to identify Art-Net devices on a network. The 4 Stream DMX Bridge will appear as an Art-Net node when using Art-Net discovery from a compatible lighting application. Each node must have a Net number from 0 to 127 and a Sub-Net number from 0 to 15 assigned to it. In addition, any Art-Net node can support up to four DMX-512 outputs.
Wi-Fi Mode Wi-Fi mode settings includes two adjustable fields, AP Mode (Create) where the 4 Stream DMX Bridge creates its own Wi-Fi access point, and Station (Join) where the 4 Stream DMX Bridge tries to join an existing network and/or router. uWhen making this setting change, a system reset is required. Wi-Fi mode AP Mode (Create) Wi-Fi mode Station (Join) AP Network Name Edit the network name that the 4 Stream DMX Bridge creates. The name can be up to 32 characters long.
AP Beacon Turn the AP Network Beacon on or make it hidden. When on, any compatible Wi-Fi device can see this AP Network on the list of available networks in the device’s Wi-Fi settings menu. When hidden, other devices cannot see this AP Network. However a known device, which knows the network name and password, will still be able to connect. uWhen making this setting change, a system reset is required. AP beacon on AP beacon hidden AP Wi-Fi Channel Select a Wi-Fi channel for the AP Wi-Fi network to use.
Station Mode Network Name Enter a known external Wi-Fi network name to join. The 4 Stream DMX Bridge Wi-Fi mode must be set to “station” to join an external network and also enter the network’s password as described in the next section. The network name can be up to 32 characters long. Press the UP and DOWN buttons to scroll through characters, and press the ENTER button to advance the cursor. Press and hold the ENTER button and press the DOWN button to back the cursor.
Station Mode DHCP Enable Turn DHCP on or off when running in station mode. When DHCP is enabled, the network router will assign an IP address to the 4 Stream DMX Bridge. This is convenient on a large network where available IP addresses may not be known. When DHCP is off, a specific static IP address must be entered, which is described in the next section.
Station Mode Router Address When using a static IP address running in station mode, the network router’s address must be entered. The router’s address can be found in the Wi-Fi settings of a wireless device already connected to the network, which can be the default address 192.168.0.1 as commonly used. uWhen making this setting change, a system reset is required. STA router addr 192.168.000.
Recall Snapshot Recalling a snapshot is like saving, select the number from 1-4 then press ENTER. If DMX-512 frames are being received over the network, they will overwrite any snapshot. The green LED flashes when DMX-512 frames are being received. Recall snapshot 1 press enter Default Snapshot Select one of the four saved snapshots (1-4) to be the default settings when the 4 Stream DMX Bridge is powered on.
INTERFERENCE AND CHANNEL SELECTION Both the Wi-Fi and Wifly radios operate in the 2.4GHz band. Many other devices including Wi-Fi routers, Bluetooth devices, and wireless audio also use this band, so the bridge will most likely always be competing for air space no matter where you are. The 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band is divided into 14 channels. Wi-Fi in the U.S. and Canada uses channels 1-11, and in Europe channels 12 and 13 are also available.
W I F LY W I R E L E S S I N S TA L L AT I O N L O C AT I O N G U I D E L I N E S Wireless DMX signal can penetrate walls, glass, metal, and most objects; however, there are many factors that can affect and/or interrupt the wireless DMX signal, one of which are people. For this reason, it is highly recommended to position the wireless antenna a minimum of 9.8 ft. (3m) above people and/or above ground level.
USB Mini B Port The USB Mini B port located next to the power connector is used to install firmware updates from a PC and it is also be used to configure the 4Cast DMX Bridge using the 4Cast Bridge Setup Windows app, both available from Elation Lighting. The port can also be configured as a USB MIDI port for connection to Apple’s Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. See Airstream DMX Pro. app. instructions for more details on how to use this. Firmware Update 1.
MIDI This app supports both MIDI input and output over USB. To use MIDI, you will need to purchase the Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. This will connect to you IPAD, will then let you connect the 4Cast DMX Bridge using a standard USB (mini) cable. The camera adapter will also allow you to connect to a USB MIDI controller like the Elation MIDIcon 2.
ART-NET AND sACN PROTOCOLS The 4 Stream DMX Bridge supports the two primary lighting protocols for sending DMX-512 data over a network, Art-Net and sACN (Streaming ACN). sACN can only be used to send DMX-512 frames where Art-Net can do that and much more. Both protocols have their advantages. sACN is simple to configure, and doesn’t require setting IP addresses, only the selection of a universe number for each DMX-512 port is needed.
C O N F I G U R AT I O N T O O L S In addition to configuring the 4 Stream DMX Bridge using the LCD and menu buttons, it can be configured from a PC connected to the USB Mini B port and using the 4 Stream Bridge Setup Windows app available for download from ADJ. www.adj.com. The 4 Stream DMX Bridge can also be configured from a compatible iOS device (iPad only) over a WiFi connection using the ADJ Airstream DMX Pro. app currently available for download from the App Store. https://itunes.apple.
