RE: MSDS on Aluminum & Steel Gutters, Downspouts, Flashing, Drip Edges, Soffit/Fascia, and
other Similar Metal Products
To Whom it may Concern:
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR
1910.1200) requires that manufacturers supply customers with Material Safety Data Sheets on
hazardous materials.
The standard in (b) (6) (iv) states "This section does not apply to "Articles". In (c), the standard
follows that: "Article" means a manufactured item: (i) which is formed to a specific shape or design
during manufacture; (ii) which has end use function (s) dependent in whole or in part upon its shape
or design during end use; and (iii) which does not release, or otherwise result in exposure to, a
hazardous chemical under normal conditions of use."
It is Amerimax Home Products' opinion that our aluminum and steel gutters, downspouts, flashing,
drip edges, soffit/fascia, and other similar metal rain carrying products would be considered articles
by this definition and, as such, would not require a MSDS.
