DD-2 Tape Format
3.1 Introduction
This section introduces the DD-2 tape format. For additional information, see the DST/DIS
SCSI Tape Drive DD-2 Tape Format Guide.
3.2 DST Cartridge
The DST cartridge is available in the following capacities:
• 25, 75, or 165 gigabytes single density cartridges
• 50, 150, or 330 gigabytes double density cartridges
• 100, 300, or 660 gigabytes quad density cartridge
3.3 DD-2 Tape Entities
A formatted DD-2 tape contains the following entities (see Figure 3-1):
• Beginning of Tape (BOT) system Zone
• Volume Format Information (VFI) Zone
• Partition(s)
– Beginning of Partition (BOP) mark
– Beginning of Media (BOM) zone
– File Sections identified by File Section Number (FSN)
– End of Recording (EOR) / End of Data (EOD) mark
– Early Warning (EW) mark
– End of Media Warning (EMW) mark
– End of Partition (EOP) mark
• End of Tape (EOT) system zone
In addition, the tape can contain additional system zones to facilitate positioning, unthreading
and unloading.
