To use the clip on the remote control You can remove the clip from the remote control and change the direction of the clip. Using the carrying pouch You can carry your player and its battery case together using the supplied carrying pouch. Insert them into the proper places in the pouch as illustrated below.
Playing a CD You can also use a rechargeable battery or a dry battery as a power source. 1. Connect your CD player. to an AC outlet to DC IN 3 V AC power adaptor Playing a CD 1 Connect the AC power adaptor. 2 Connect the headphones/earphones with remote control. Playback options You can enjoy various playback options using the P MODE/ the jog lever. During playback, if you press and hold the button until “ ” appears, you can repeat play mode that was selected using P MODE/ .
Playing tracks repeatedly (Repeat play) You can play tracks repeatedly in normal, single, shuffle, Bookmarked track and PGM play modes. During playback, press and hold P MODE/ until “ ” appears. (Single play) Playback options Playing a single track During playback, press P MODE/ repeatedly until “1” appears. Playing tracks in random order (Shuffle play) During playback, press P MODE/ repeatedly until “SHUF” appears.
Playing your favorite tracks by adding Bookmarks (Bookmarked track play) You can add Bookmarks to up to 99 tracks for each CD. You can use this function for up to 10 CDs. To add Bookmarks 1 During playback of the track where you want to add a Bookmark, press and hold the jog lever until “ (Bookmark)” flashes in the display. When the Bookmark has been added successfully, flashing of “ ” becomes slow. 2 Repeat step 1 to add Bookmarks to the tracks you want.
Playing tracks in your favorite order (PGM play) You can program the CD player to play up to 64 tracks in your favorite order. 1 During playback, press P MODE/ repeatedly until “PGM” appears. 2 Flick the jog lever toward > or . to select a track. Track number Playback options Playing order 3 Press the jog lever to enter the selected track. “000” appears and the playing order increases by one. 4 5 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to select the tracks in your favorite order.
B Available features G-PROTECTION function Displaying CD text information The G-PROTECTION function has been developed to provide excellent protection against sound skipping while jogging. When you set the G-PROTECTION switch on your CD player to “2”, the G-PROTECTION function will be enhanced compared to “1.” To walk with the CD player and enjoy high quality CD sound using the G-PROTECTION function, set the G-PROTECTION switch to “1.
Checking the remaining time on the CD and the number of tracks left You can check the remaining time on the CD and the number of tracks left using DISPLAY. When playing a CD containing CD text information, you cannot use this function. Emphasizing the bass sound (SOUND) You can emphasize the bass-boosted sound. Press SOUND to select “SOUND 1” or “SOUND 2.” No indication (Normal play) Press DISPLAY.
Protecting your hearing Locking the controls (AVLS) (HOLD) The AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter System) function keeps down the maximum volume to protect your hearing. You can lock the controls on your CD player to prevent accidental button presses. Set AVLS (under the lid) to “LIMIT.” Slide HOLD in the direction of the arrow. CD player Remote control Appears when the volume is turned up and beyond a certain level. To turn off the AVLS function Set AVLS to “NORM.
Turning off the operation beep sound Turning off the LCD’s backlight You can turn off the beep sound that is heard from your headphones/earphones when you operate your CD player. While you are using the rechargeable battery or dry battery, the LCD’s backlight turns on for about 5 seconds every time you press a button. However, you can turn off the backlight to save the battery power. 1 2 Remove the power source (AC power adaptor, rechargeable battery or dry battery) from the CD player.
B Connecting your CD player Connecting a stereo system You can listen to CDs through a stereo system and record CDs on a cassette tape and a MiniDisc. For details, see the instruction manual that comes with the connected device. Be sure to turn off all connected devices before making connections. MiniDisc recorder, DAT deck, etc. 18 When using the connecting cord • You cannot adjust the volume of output from the i jack using VOL +/– on the CD player or the remote control.

Using the rechargeable battery Charging of the battery starts. In the display of the remote control, “Charging” indication flashes and the indicator sections of light up in succession. The CHARGE lamp lights up on the CD player. When the battery is completely charged, all indications in the display disappear and the CHARGE lamp goes off.
To remove the rechargeable battery Push # end to remove the battery. When to replace the rechargeable battery If the battery life becomes shorter by about half, replace the battery with new rechargeable battery. Note on the rechargeable battery If the battery is new or has not been used for a long time, it may not be charged completely until you charge and discharge it several times. When to charge the rechargeable battery You can check the remaining power of the battery in the display.
Using the dry battery 3 Connect the external battery case to the CD player. Make sure to use the supplied external battery case. Use only the following dry battery type for your CD player: • LR6 (size AA) alkaline battery 1 Align the lines below PUSH as illustrated, then draw out the battery case while pressing PUSH. to EXT BATT Align When to replace the battery You can check the remaining power of the battery in the display. Battery power is full. ○ ○ ○ r Battery power is getting low.
Notes on the power source Disconnect all power sources when the CD player is not used for a long time. On AC power adaptor • Use only the AC power adaptor supplied or recommended in “Accessories (supplied/ optional).” Do not use any other AC power adaptor. It may cause a malfunction. Polarity of the plug • Do not touch the AC power adaptor with wet hands. • Connect the AC power adaptor to an easily accessible AC outlet.
B Additional Information • Do not expose the CD to direct sunlight or heat sources such as hot air ducts. Do not leave the CD in a car parked under direct sunlight. Precautions On safety • Should any solid objects or liquid fall into the CD player, unplug it and have it checked by qualified personnel before operating it any further. • Do not put any foreign objects in the DC IN 3 V (external power input) jack. On the CD player • Keep the lens on the CD player clean and do not touch it.
Maintenance To clean the casing Use a soft cloth slightly moistened in water or a mild detergent solution. Do not use alcohol, benzine or thinner. To clean the terminal If the terminal on the charging stand becomes dirty, the battery may not be charged properly. Clean the terminal with a cotton swab or a dry cloth periodically as illustrated below.
Troubleshooting Should any problem persist after you have checked these symptoms, consult your nearest Sony dealer. Symptom Cause and/or corrective actions The volume does not increase even if you turn VOL +/– in the + direction repeatedly (even if you flick VOL +/– toward + repeatedly on the CD player).
