3.1. Introduction

The Main Tasks of the TFAx Unit:

Downlink (DL):

• Optical-to-RF conversion of the input optical signal

• Automatic Gain Control (AGC) of each converted signal, in order to compensate optical

losses;

• RF ampliﬁ cation: the converted RF signal is boosted in order to maintain a good signal-to-

noise ratio

• RF ﬁ ltering: a proper ﬁ lter rejects the spurious emissions

• RF duplexing and splitting: the boosted RF signal is conveyed to 2 antenna ports

Uplink (UL):

• RF ampliﬁ cation: a low noise ampliﬁ er boosts the signal received from antennas in order

to maintain a good signal-to-noise ratio

• RF ﬁ ltering: the boosted signal is cleaned of the spurious emissions
