This product is warranted by Anelace, Inc. to the original purchaser to be free from
defects in material and workmanship under normal use for a period of 90 days from
the date of purchase. During the warranty period, and upon proof of purchase, the
product will be repaired or replaced (with the same or similar model) at
Anelace’s
option without any charge for either parts or labor. This warranty will not apply if
the product has been misused, abused, or altered. T o obtain warranty service you
must send the product postage paid with a copy of your sales receipt or other proof
of purchase and the date of purchase to the address supplied by Anelace (see "To
Contact Anelace, Inc." above). Due to the possibility of damage or loss, it is recom

mended when sending the product that you package it securely.

How to set up and use your Anelace Marquee Messager™ Alarm Clock
Apply power
Connect the ac adapter connector into the clock, as shown in Fig. 1.
Next, plug the adapter into an ac mains socket.
Install batteries (optional)
Remove battery cover to install 3 ‘AA’ batteries, as shown in Fig. 2.
Replace all batteries at the same time. [The clock will not charge rechargeable batteries, although this
type of battery may be used if recharged externally. You should not mix battery types.]
Note: You may install batteries before first applying ac power, but the clock
will not initialize until ac power is detected.
Set the time
There are two buttons - marked “HR” and “MIN” - on the rear of the clock.
• To change the current hour:
- Press and release the “HR” button to advance the setting 1 hour.
- Press and hold the “HR” button to auto-advance the hour setting.
• To change the current minute
- Press and release the “MIN” button to advance the setting 1 minute.
- Press and hold the “MIN” button to auto-advance the minute setting.
• To reset the seconds to :00
- Press “HR” and “MIN” simultaneously [the display will show “00.”]
- Release both buttons to start the seconds’ advance.
Display the Clock
To stand the clock on a flat surface, rotate the support stand back fully.
At this point, you have a functioning clock with a scanning display of the time.
If you’d like create and display a scanning message right now, then follow these simple steps:
QUICK START - MESSAGE ENTRY
Create the message
- Open the key switch cover.
- Enter your message using the same text typing techniques used on most cell phones.
The character values are shown in Table 1.
- If necessary, erase the last character entered by pushing and releasing the “Snooze/Option” button
on the top of the clock.
- Save the message: Close the key switch cover fully.
To change the display mode (optional)
- Open the key switch cover.
- Immediately press and release the ‘Snooze/Option’ button (on top of the clock - see Fig. 3) to enter
the options mode. [The 5x7 array of dim lights will extinguish.]
- Press key “2” and release it: this sets the clock to display the time only (no message display).
- To have the display consist of the message only (no time display): press and release key ‘2’ again.
- Close the key switch cover fully - it will ‘snap’ closed.
Set the alarm time
=> Important: Press and continue to hold down the “Snooze/Option” button on the top of the
clock to check or set the alarm time. [The background will be dimly lit.]
• To see or change the current alarm hour setting
- Press and release the “HR” button to see the current setting.
- Press and release the “HR” button again to advance the alarm one hour.
- Press and hold the “HR” button to auto-advance.
• To see or change the current alarm minute setting
- Press and release the “MIN” button to see the current setting.
- Press and release the “MIN” button again to advance the alarm one minute.
- Press and hold the “MIN” button to auto-advance.
Turn the alarm on
• To make the alarm active, slide the alarm switch up. [The switch is on the left side of the clock - Fig. 3]
In display modes that show the time, a ‘bell’ alarm icon will follow the time in the scan.
Snooze alarm
• When the alarm is active, push & release the “Snooze/Option” button to silence the alarm for 10 minutes.
Turn the alarm/snooze off
• To turn off/disable the alarm/snooze, slide the alarm switch to the down position.
Dim/Bright setting
• Press and release the “Snooze/Option” button to alternate between the two available brightness settings.
Note: This function is disabled when the ‘snooze’ function has been engaged.
Message Entry
The Anelace Marquee Messager™ has the ability to store 4 different messages; each message can have
up to 28 characters. Only one message is active at a time - see the “Options” section below to see how to
select among the messages.
• To change the content of the current message:
- Open the keypad cover to expose the 12-key entry pad. The active 5 x 7 character entry display array
area will light dimly.
- Select the character as shown in Table 1. Successive pushes of a single key will select the next
character for that key. The character will ‘lock in’ after about 1 second, enabling a subsequent character
to be entered from the same key.
Note: The ‘lock in’ state will be indicated by the appearance of a column of lights next to the entry
character. Once it appears, a key push will enter a new character. [The column will self-
extinguish after about 1 second.]
• To erase a character:
- Push and release the “Snooze/Option” button.
Note: The ‘lock in’ indicator column described above will appear to remind the user that the now-
displayed character is locked in (it won’t be cycled).
• The CE Certificate applies to the EU and UK version only
• EU Adaptor: Hon-Kwang # HKA-A0920-230 9V~ 200 mA 1.8 VA
• UK Adaptor: Hon-Kwang # HKA-A1050BS 10V~ 500 mA 5 VA.
• The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and no
objects filled with liquids, such as vases, should be placed so that
they can spill on the apparatus.
• Do not cover the apparatus with materials that will impede its cooling.

™
Alarm Clock
• To erase the entire message entry
- Push and hold the “Snooze/Option” button.
• To save the message
- Close the keypad cover.
Note: If no characters have been entered (or, equivalently, if the entire message has been erased),
the previous message will be restored.
=> As noted, each message can have up to 28 characters. Once 28 characters have been entered, attempts to
enter a new character will cause a short ‘beep.’ [Continued attempts to enter additional characters will simply
cycle the 28th character through its key’s character sequence (see Table 1).]
Options
The Anelace Marquee Messager™ has a number of different options that can be easily selected:
- 12/24 hour display
- Display modes (time only, message only, time + message)
- Display operation without ac power
- Scan speed
- Message selection
- Specialized time-base options
These are described in detail below.

• To enter the option setting mode
- Open the keypad cover to expose the 12-key entry pad.
(The active 5x7 character array area will light dimly.)
- Immediately push and release the “Snooze/Option” button.
(This will turn off the dimly-lit 5x7 array in the display.)
• To end option-setting at any time
- Close the keypad cover.

12 hour/24 hour display
The clock can display time in the 12 hour format [12:00AM -> 11:59PM] or in the 24 hour format
[00:00 -> 23:59]. The factory default setting is 12 hour mode.
• To alternate between the two modes:
- Push and release the Key “1” while in the option-setting mode.
Display mode
The Anelace Marquee Messager™ has 3 display modes:
- Time only (this mode is factory-set)
- Selected message only
- Time followed by the selected message
• To circulate through these 3 choices:
- Push and release the Key “2” while in the option-setting mode.
Operation without ac power
It is recommended that the user install batteries to allow the clock to keep time in the event power is lost. (See
“Install Batteries”) When ac power is lost, the clock will continue to keep the time by using the batteries to
power its internal time reference. To extend battery life, the clock will normally shut off power to the display
when it has detected that ac power is lost.
Note: Battery power will still operate the alarm sound and allow the snooze function
to work even without the display being powered.)
Display operation without ac power
There may be times when the user wants the clock/message display to continue even when ac power is absent.
(Obviously, battery life will be reduced in this case.) The clock design permits this alternative.
• To alternate between the two modes:
- Push and release the Key “3” while in the option-setting mode.
The display will show the required source of power needed to run the display:
=> If “AC” is shown, the display requires ac power (this mode is set at the factory)
=> If “AA” is shown, the display will run from the ‘AA’ batteries when ac power is lost.
Time/Message Scan Speed
The clock allows the user to select among 9 different scan rates, from “1” (the slowest) to “9” (the fastest).
• To select the message scan rate:
- Push and release the Key “*” while in the option-setting mode.
- Next push the key number corresponding to the desired scan rate (Key “1” -> Key “9”).
• To select a different speed:
- Repeat this two-keystroke process.
Message selection
The clock allows the user to store 4 different messages, but only one message is active at any time.
Message entry and message display is associated with the currently active message.
• To select/change the active message:
- Push and release the Key “#” while in the option-setting mode.
- Next: push the key number corresponding to the desired message number (Key “1” -> Key “4”).
The selected message will scan.
• To select a different message:
- Repeat this two-keystroke process.
Restore factory settings
• To restore the clock to the original settings:
- Remove the batteries used for power backup
- Unplug the clock from the ac power
- Push and hold the “Snooze/Option” button; while holding it, apply ac power to the clock i.e. plug it in.
If you followed the sequence just above, the clock will be set for these options:
- All messages will be erased. [Message 1 will be selected and will be “1”.]
- The clock will be in 12 hour display mode.
- The time-only display will be selected.
- AC power will be required to run the display.
- The basis for timekeeping will be the frequency of the ac line.
Specialized Options - Time Base
The clock normally uses the frequency of the ac power line to keep time. It determines the ac line frequency
(either 50 Hz or 60 Hz) when it first powers up. If ac power later disappears (if you unplug the clock), then the
clock will use an internal crystal oscillator running from battery power for timekeeping.
There may be times when you need to force the clock to change its selection - this is rarely necessary!
• While in the option-setting mode, push Key “0” to select the time base options:
Next push one of the following keys to achieve the desired option:
• Key “1”: Force the clock to use its internal oscillator for its time base
=> Note: long-term accuracy of the time display is lower in this mode than it is when a ‘clean’ ac power line
provides the time base.
• Key “4”: Force the clock to use the ac line as its time base, as long as ac is available.
• Key “5”: Force the clock to use 50 Hz as its ac time base*
=> Note: if this option is selected while using 60 Hz, the clock will run fast; erratic display behavior may occur
• Key “6”: Force the clock to use 60 Hz as its ac time base**
=> Note: if this option is selected while using 50 Hz, the clock will run slow!
Extras
Included in the package is a lanyard.
You can use the lanyard to hang the clock on a wall, around your neck,…
Fig. 4 shows how the lanyard is attached to the clock.

“Snooze/Option” Button Summary
You may have noticed:
The “Snooze/Option” button - the large button on the top of the clock - is used in a variety of ways.
Depending upon the state of the clock, it is used to do the following:
1) Alternate between a bright and dimmed display (push and release).
2) Enable the display and/or setting of the alarm time (push and hold).
3) Turn off the alarm for 10 more minutes (push and release after the alarm has sounded).
4) Enable option setting (push and release immediately after opening the key switch cover).
5) Erase a character during message entry (push and release).
6) Erase the message being entered (push and hold during message entry).
7) Restore factory-installed options settings [hold while applying ac power (no batteries)]
Don’t let this confuse you!
We hope you’ll find that this single - but versatile - button makes the clock a little simpler to use.
