knowyourAppleIDpassword.Two-factorauthenticationisbuiltintoiOS9,iPadOS13,OSX10.11,or
later.
CertainfeaturesiniOS,iPadOS,andmacOSrequirethesecurityoftwo-factorauthentication,whichis
designedtoprotectyourinformation.IfyoucreateanewAppleIDonadevicewithiOS13.4,iPadOS
13.4,macOS10.15.4,orlater,youraccountautomaticallyusestwo-factorauthentication.Ifyou
previouslycreatedanAppleIDaccountwithouttwo-factorauthentication,youcanturnonitsextra
layerofsecurityatanytime.

Turnontwo-factorauthentication
1. IfyourAppleIDaccountisnʼtalreadyusingtwo-factorauthentication,gotoSettings >[your
name]>Password&Security.
2. TapTurnOnTwo-FactorAuthentication,thentapContinue.
3. Enteratrustedphonenumber(aphonenumberwhereyouwanttoreceiveverificationcodesfor
two-factorauthentication).
Youcanchoosetoreceivethecodesbytextmessageorautomatedphonecall.
4. TapNext.
5. Entertheverificationcodesenttoyourtrustedphonenumber.
Tosendorresendaverificationcode,tap“Didnʼtgetaverificationcode?”
YouwonʼtbeaskedforaverificationcodeagainonyouriPadunlessyousignoutcompletely,
eraseyouriPad,signintoyourAppleIDaccountpageinawebbrowser,orneedtochangeyour
AppleIDpasswordforsecurityreasons.
Afteryouturnontwo-factorauthentication,youhaveatwo-weekperiodduringwhichyoucanturnit
off.Afterthatperiod,youcanʼtturnofftwo-factorauthentication.Toturnitoff,openyour
confirmationemailandclickthelinktoreturntoyourprevioussecuritysettings.Keepinmindthat
turningofftwo-factorauthenticationmakesyouraccountlesssecureandmeansyoucanʼtuse
featuresthatrequireahigherlevelofsecurity.
