User Guide
632 Appendix B Importing Other Projects
• In earlier versions of DVD Studio Pro, there was an issue when using the “Get Current
Subtitle Stream” function in scripts—it was always off by 1. To work around this
problem, many users would add a step into their scripts that would subtract 1 from
the value returned with this function. If you import a project created with an earlier
version of DVD Studio Pro that has been modified to avoid this problem, it will not
work properly in DVD Studio Pro 4. You will need to edit the script to remove the
modification you added to work around this issue.
• Earlier versions of DVD Studio Pro used Selection Conditions on each button to
determine which button would be selected when you jumped to a menu.
DVD Studio Pro 4 uses an easier method for controlling which button is selected
when a menu is jumped to—you simply select the specific button from a list of
targets when you assign the connection. When you import a project created with an
earlier version of DVD Studio Pro into DVD Studio Pro 4, the original Selection
Conditions are not retained. You will need to modify these connections in
DVD Studio Pro 4.
• The DVD specification limits a project to 99 tracks, stories, and slideshows.
DVD Studio Pro 1 allowed you to create more stories than allowed by the DVD-Video
specification. When you import into DVD Studio Pro 4 a project with more than 99
tracks, stories, and slideshows, an error dialog appears warning you that the entire
project could not be imported.
Importing DVD Studio Pro 2 and DVD Studio Pro 3
Projects Into DVD Studio Pro 4
There are several issues you should be aware of if you are importing projects created in
DVD Studio Pro 2 and DVD Studio Pro 3 into DVD Studio Pro 4.
Opening Old Projects
When you open a project created in DVD Studio Pro 2 or DVD Studio Pro 3 in
DVD Studio Pro 4, a warning appears saying that when you save the project, you will
no longer be able to open it in DVD Studio Pro 2 or DVD Studio Pro 3.
DVD Studio Pro 4 has improved the way text items in menus are handled, which may
cause some menus to look slightly different.
Importing Item Descriptions
You cannot import item descriptions saved with any earlier version of DVD Studio Pro
(1, 2, or 3) into DVD Studio Pro 4. Since an item description is a text file describing an
element such as a menu or track, you can create a new item description by importing a
project that contains the element into DVD Studio Pro 4, then saving an item
description of it.
