Chapter 8 Installing Final Cut Server Clients
Although the Final Cut Server client can be run on both Mac OS X and Windows
computers, you may have issues with some QuickTime codecs. Several QuickTime
codecs are available in either a Mac OS X or Windows version, but not both. This may
lead to a situation where a media le is not recognized by the client’s computer and
cannot be played. For the best results, record in and encode with codecs supported by
all of the operating systems on which you plan to run the Final Cut Server client.
If multiple users use the computer on which you are installing the Important:
Final Cut Server client, each user will have to install his or her own copy of the client.
About the Java Web Start Client Files
To use the Java Web Start method, you must enter a URL in a supported browser.
The URL uses the format of http://hostname/FinalCutServer, where hostname is the
IP address or name of the computer on which you installed Final Cut Server. After
entering the URL in a supported browser and clicking the Download button, the
Final Cut Server client application is downloaded to your system.
Each time you open the Final Cut Server client, the server is checked to see if a newer
version of the client is available. If a newer version is available, it is automatically
downloaded and opened. If not, the currently downloaded client opens.
