Chapter 2 Introduction to the Motion interface 30
Workspace
When you open a Motion project from the Project Browser or as a default project, the Motion
workspace lls your screen as a single project window with dedicated areas that can be shown
or hidden:
Timing pane
Project pane
File Browser,
Library, and
Inspector
Canvas
Toolbar
File Browser, Library, and Inspector: Use these three panes to import media les into your
project; to locate and apply eects and other content that Motion provides; and to modify
settings of all the media and eects in your project. The most commonly used Inspector
controls are also available in the heads-up display (HUD) a oating window that you can show
or hide. For more information, see File Browser overview on page 30, Library overview on
page 35, Inspector overview on page 40, and HUD on page 44.
Canvas: Arrange, manipulate, and play back your composition in this main work area of the
interface. For more information, see Canvas overview on page 55.
Toolbar: Use these tools and controls to create and edit elements in the Canvas. For more
information, see Toolbar overview on page 46.
Project pane: Use the three lists in this area—Layers, Media, and Audio—to organize all the
objects in your composition; to display all external images, clips, and audio les linked to your
project; and to display all audio tracks in your project. For more information, see Project pane
overview on page 69.
Timing pane: Use the three panes in this area—Timeline, Audio Timeline, and Keyframe
Editor—to see and manipulate timing aspects of a project. For more information, see Timing
pane overview on page 81.
