Automate effects with audio behaviors
Intro to audio behaviors in Motion
You can use audio behaviors to automate common audio effects such as pans and fades,
as well as create sophisticated audio-driven animations.
There are three audio behaviors:
Audio Auto Pan behavior automates commonly used panning effects in an audio track.
Audio Fade In/Fade Out behavior automates the fading in and out an audio track.
Audio parameter behavior performs an analysis of an audio parameter (volume or bass,
for example), then links changes in that property to any other object parameter in your
project. For example, you can use the Audio parameter behavior to make a shape pulse
to the bass of an audio track.
The Audio Auto Pan behavior and Audio Fade In/Fade Out behavior are located in the Audio
category of behaviors. You apply them like any other standard behavior: by dragging them
from the Library to an object in the Layers list, or by using the Behaviors pop-up menu in
the toolbar. See Intro to applying behaviors in Motion.
The Audio parameter behavior is located in the Parameter category of behaviors. See Apply
the Audio parameter behavior in Motion.
Audio Auto Pan behavior in Motion
The Audio Auto Pan behavior automates commonly used panning effects in an audio track.
Adjust this behavior using the controls in the Behaviors Inspector:
Pan Position: A slider that sets the position of the pan. If the Pan Position slider is set
to 0, the sound is equally balanced between the left and right channels. With larger
negative values of Pan Position, the sound increases in volume in the left channel and
decreases in the right channel. With larger positive values of Pan Position, the sound
increases in volume in the right channel and decreases in the left channel.
Depth: A slider that sets how far the automatic pan occurs in the left and right channels.
Values range from 0 to 100.
Direction: A pop-up menu that sets the direction in which the pan moves over the
behaviors duration. Choose Left or Right to increase volume in one channel and
decrease volume in the other channel over the behaviors duration, giving the
impression of a sound moving from one direction to another.
Volume: A pop-up menu that sets how audio levels are affected during the pan. Choose
from five options:
Constant: An animation curve that allows no change in volume.
Ramp Up: An animation curve that creates a constant increase in volume
Ramp Down: An animation curve that creates a constant decrease in volume
Crescendo: A logarithmic animation curve that creates a slowly accelerating increase
in volume
Decrescendo: A logarithmic animation curve that creates a slowly decelerating
decrease in volume
