Installing caulking at ber cement siding

bu joints/edges aer installaon

It is normal for building products located on the

exterior of a home to expand and contract with

temperature changes. To ensure a successful siding

installaon, you must allow for this movement during

installaon. While Allura Fiber Cement Siding does not

experience the same rate of expansion and contracon

as many other building products (such as wood), over

me you may noce movement of the siding, specically

at the bu end/joints. This issue is mainly an aesthec

issue and should not create a condion that would

cause long-term product failure. If you are dissased

with the appearance of the bu end/joint locaons and

wish to address them, Allura recommends the following

pracces:

• Apply joint covers (a/k/a H-covers) at the joint

locaons.

• Caulk openings at the bu end/joint locaons.

NOTE: Refer to your sealant manufacturer’s

specicaons to determine if they allow the caulking

of ber cement siding bu joints/edges, what their

minimum and maximum gap requirements are

and/or how this pracce may aect the warranty

for the caulking.

Condions of installing caulking at Allura

All products must be installed in accordance with all Naonal,

State, and Local building codes. Be sure to check with

your local code ocial or governing body for the building

requirements in your area.

All other installaon requirements listed in the Allura Fiber

Cement Siding Installaon Manual must be met.
