Precautions Safety Precautions Please read carefully This manual is intended to inform you and any other persons who may use this device of possible dangers and safety instructions, in order to help you maximize your enjoyment of this product, and to protect you and your equipment from damage. - Following is an explanation of symbols used throughout the manual. ! This symbol indicates serious warnings about the use of this device.
! Warning Never remove the plastic case from this unit. Some components inside operate at high voltages and can cause severe electrical shock if touched. Make sure that no liquid is spilled or leaks into this unit and that no metal or inflammable objects fall inside since this can cause fire, shock, malfunctioning or accidents.
* Maintenance of the Plastic Case Do not use thinner, benzene, insecticide, or other volatile substances to clean the case, as this may cause deterioration and delamination of the paint. Clean the plastic case and front panel with a soft cloth. Remove severe dirt with a soft cloth moistened with a small amount of neutral detergent diluted with water. Wipe dry after cleaning. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer before performing any maintenance on the unit.

Compatibility with Windows 98, Windows 2000 This card reader requires the following: 1. IBM PC/AT-compatible computer with USB port 2. Windows 98 or Windows 2000 To find your version of Windows software is compatible with USB: 1. Right click on 'My Computer' 2. Click on 'Properties' 3. Click on 'Device Manager' 4. 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' should be listed with a plus sign in front of it. (If you see a flag highlighted in yellow, there is an incompatiblity.
Windows 98 Quickstart Installation Procedure Follow the guidelines below when installing your card reader. Before connecting the card reader, turn on your computer and start Windows. With the CompactFlash card inserted in the reader, plug the reader into the USB port or hub. Install the appropriate device driver. You may now access your CompactFlash Card reader as a drive letter. There is no need to reboot your system.
Windows 2000 Quickstart Installation Procedure Follow the guidelines below when installing your card reader. Before connecting the card reader, turn on your computer and start Windows. With the CompactFlash card inserted in the reader, plug the reader into the USB port or hub. The system will automatically install the USB Mass Storage Class Driver. Reboot you system. You may now access your CompactFlash Card reader as a drive letter.
Windows 98 Installation Before using your CompactFlash card reader for the first time, you must install the device drivers located on the accompanying Floppy. 1. Start Windows on your computer. 2. Connect the IBM CF USB Reader, with a CompactFlash card inserted in the reader, to the USB port or to a powered USB hub. 3. A dialog box with 'New Hardware Found' will appear. Click 4. Click on Search for the best driver for your device. Click 5. Insert the Floppy diskette into the Floppy drive. 6.
Windows 2000 Installation Before using your CompactFlash card reader for the first time, you must install the device drivers located on the accompanying CD-ROM. 1. Start Windows on your computer. 2. Connect the IBM CF USB Reader, with a CompactFlash card inserted in the reader, to the USB port or to a powered USB hub. 3. A dialog box with 'New Hardware Found' will appear. The system will automatically install the USB Mass Storage Class driver. 4 . The installation is now complete.
Connecting the USB CompactFlash Reader to a Computer Connecting the USB Cable (using without other peripheral devices) Using the supplied USB cable, connect the card reader to the desired USB port located on the computer. Make sure the cable ends are firmly connected. The Power light will come on when it is properly connected. Be careful not to confuse the upper and lower parts of the connector. Do not force connections, as this may damage the connection or the card reader.
Basic Operations This section explains how to use various types of cards. Before proceeding, make sure device drivers for your reader are installed. Inserting the Card Position the card in the direction shown below. Make sure the pin holes face down towards the slot and with the keyed slots on the side of the flash aligned with the correct grooves in the slot. Confirm that the card is inserted firmly. Be careful to insert the card in the proper direction.
Using with Windows Copying Files Start Windows double-click the "My Computer" icon to open the "My Computer" window. There, you will see a drive letter icon. (The specific assigned to the drive D, E, and so on will vary, depnding on your paricular system configuration) You may now copy files to or from your reader and to or from your hard drive or other connected media types as you would any other media types such as diskettes, harddrives, ect.
