aWARNING
This vehicle is considerably powerful
and must be used gradually and with
the greatest care.
Do not position any object inside the
front part of the fairing (between the
handlebar and the dashboard), in order
not to hinder the rotation of the handle-
bar and visibility toward the dashboard.
NOTE Before starting the engine, care-
fully read chapter "safe drive", see p. 5
(SAFE DRIVE).
aWARNING
Exhaust gases contain carbon monox-
ide, which is extremely noxious if in-
haled.
Avoid starting the engine in closed or
badly-ventilated rooms.
The non-observance of this warning
may cause loss of consciousness or
even lead to death by asphyxia.
NOTE With the side stand down, the en-
gine can be started only if the gears are in
neutral; in this case, if you try to engage
the gears, the engine stops.
With the side stand up, it is possible to start
the engine either in neutral gear or with en-
gaged gears and pulled in clutch lever.
Get on the vehicle in riding position, see
p. 46 (GETTING ON AND OFF THE VE-
HICLE).
Make sure that the stand is completely
up.

the light switch (1) is in position "

Make sure that the dimmer switch (2) is
in position # 8.
Move the engine stop switch (3) to posi-
tion "# 2".
Rotate the key (4) and move the ignition
switch to position 2.
At this point:
The engine oil pressure LED warning
light (red) "." (5) comes on on the
dashboard and remains on until the
engine has been started;
the red line warning light LED max
(red) (6) comes on on the dashboard
for approximately three seconds and
the revolution counter pointer (7) shifts
to the preset red line threshold;
the left display shows the instantane-
ous speed (8), the trip (9) and total (10)
kilometers/miles odometer;
the coolant temperature (11) and the
digital clock (12) appear on the right
display (multifunction).
NOTE When the engine is cold, the
writing "9" (11a) blinks.
Whenever the ignition switch is turned
to position 2, the writing
HIL (11b)
is displayed for about three seconds.
the fuel pump will pressurize the fuel
supply circuit, sending out a hum for
about three seconds.
aCAUTION
If the low fuel warning light "-" (13)
comes on on the dashboard, provide for
topping up as soon as possible, see p.
33 (FUEL).
