3. Check blade balance by sliding blade on
an unthreaded bolt. If blade does not
remain horizontal, sharpen the heavy end
until blade is balanced.
Install Blades
1. Reinstall blades, washers and nuts on
spindles. See Figure 15.
2. Torque bolts to 136 – 163 N•m
(100 – 120 lb-ft).
CHECK BATTERY
Remove Battery
1. Place unit in service position. See
Service Position on page 18.
2. Disconnect the negative cable and then
the positive cable from the battery.
See Figure 17.
3. Remove hardware retaining battery
brackets and remove brackets.
IMPORTANT: Remove flange nuts and
brackets only. DO NOT remove bolts from
battery tray.
4. Remove battery.
Install Battery
Install Factory Battery
Battery bracket configurations for a U1
battery and a factory-installed battery are
different. If replacing a U1 battery with a
factory-installed battery, see step 1. If a
factory-installed battery was most recently
used, advance to step 2.
1. Remove hardware retaining L-bracket to
battery bracket and reinstall hardware
into L-bracket hole nearest curved edge.
See Figure 18.
CAUTION: Unbalanced blades
cause excessive vibration and
eventual damage to unit.
Balance blades before
reinstalling on unit.
NEVER weld or straighten
blades.
WARNING: Battery posts,
terminals and related
accessories contain lead and
lead compounds, chemicals
known to the State of California
to cause cancer and
reproductive harm. Wash hands
after handling.
