CHECK MOWER BLADES
Check blades for wear. Replace or sharpen
as needed.
Remove Blades
See Figure 14.
1. Stop engine, remove key and wait for all
moving parts to stop and for hot parts to
cool.
2. Remove hardware securing blades to
spindles and remove blades. Retain all
hardware for reinstallation.
Sharpen Blades
See Figure 15.
1. Remove blades from unit. Discard blades
if:
More than 1.3 cm (1/2") of metal is
removed.
Air lifts are eroded.
Blades are bent or broken.
2. File or grind an equal amount of material
from each cutting edge of the blade until
sharp. DO NOT change angle of cutting
edge or round the corner of the blade.
3. Check blade balance by sliding blade on
an unthreaded bolt. If blade does not
remain horizontal, sharpen the heavy end
until blade is balanced.
Install Blades
1. Reinstall blades, washers and nuts on
spindles. See Figure 14.
2. Torque bolts to 136 N•m – 163 N•m
(100 lb-ft – 120 lb-ft).
CAUTION: AVOID INJURY. Use
sturdy gloves or padding to
protect hands when working with
mower blades.
Rotation of one blade rotates the
other blades.
CAUTION: DO NOT sharpen
blades while attached to unit.
