TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem Probable Cause Correction
Engine will not
start.
Engine switch in off
position.
Move switch to on position. See Engine Switch on
page 10.
Fuel valve is closed. Open the fuel valve. See Fuel Valve on page 10.
Fuel tank is empty. Fill fuel tank. See Before Operation on page 13.
Spark plug
disconnected.
Connect spark plug.
Faulty spark plug. Replace spark plug.
Choke lever in wrong
position.
Adjust choke lever position. See Choke Control
Lever on page 10.
Faulty engine. See your Ariens Dealer.
Engine
overheats.
Debris accumulated on
engine and cooling fins.
Clean debris from engine and cooling fins.
Cylinder does
not extend or
retract when
control lever is
moved.
Low hydraulic oil level. Refill hydraulic oil to proper level. See Check

Kinked or pinched
hydraulic lines.
Repair or replace damaged hydraulic lines.
Hydraulic drive coupling
broken.
Replace hydraulic drive coupling. See

Faulty hydraulic pump. See your Ariens Dealer.
Faulty control valve. See your Ariens Dealer.
Excessive
vibration or
noise from
hydraulic drive
coupling.
Worn or damaged drive
coupling.

Erratic
movement of
cylinder.
