Installation Guide
STEP 1 SOLID AND GROOVED
Add a support joist to the outside or inside of the outer joists. Insert the Armadillo ashing so the
shorter edge rests over the house ledger wood board and the longer plastic edge is inserted behind the
house siding. Add notches in the Armadillo ashing to clear wood joists as needed. Add an additional
support joist to the outer edge (prevents stringer movement). For longer spans/runs of decking please
add additional support blocks throughout substructure, preventing twisting and adding rigidity.
STEP 2 SOLID AND GROOVED
Start at the edge away from the house. Pre-drill clearance holes starting 1” in from board end and
1” from outer edge of deck board. Screw down the rst deck board using the pre-drilled holes. Use
recommended trim head screws. Drill screws in perpendicular, not at an angle. DO NOT OVERDRIVE.
STEP 3 GROOVED
Place an TurboClip deck clip in the groove of the Armadillo deck board centered over each joist
and fasten screw to the correct depth or height, with the corresponding bit. DO NOT OVERDRIVE
SCREW INTO CLIP. Overdriving screws will cause clip failure.
STEP 4 GROOVED
Slide your next deck board onto the exposed TurboClip deck clips and tap with a rubber mallet firmly
into deck clip. Add the next row of TurboClip deck clips as shown in Step 3. Continue to measure the
distance to the home and adjust accordingly so the last board doesn’t have to be trimmed lengthwise
at an angle.
STEP 5 SOLID AND GROOVED
When butt joints are used allow 1/16” gap between board ends. We recommend picture framing and
using a transition board to avoid butt joints. When butt joints are used with lack of picture frame,
perimeter screws are required. When installing fascia to cover the ends of the boards, screws are not
required around the outside deck perimeter.
STAIR INSTALLATION
Stair stringers should be placed 10” on center. Face screw boards on stair stringers. Use solid boards
only. A 1/16” minimum edge gap is required between stair treads.

We recommend that all board ends, including ripped/exposed Armadillo board cores, be sealed using Extreme Moisture Repellant
End Board Sealer. Sealer helps prevent moisture absorption and should be applied thick enough to exposed area to provide an
even coat. Variation or changes in board colors does occur. We recommend laying out your deck boards before installation begins.
ATTENTION:
Obtain building permits before building. • Store flat and provide support every 2 ft. • Keep covered prior to install. • Joist spacing for
residential is 16" on center and 12" on center for commercial. • Armadillo boards can NOT be installed directly on old deck boards or cement. Please
reference our screw and hidden fastener guide at www.armadillodeck.com. Do not over tighten fasteners. Screw heads MUST be flush with the top of the
deck board. DO NOT OVERDRIVE SCREWS. Install grooved boards with Armadillo or Turboclip hidden fasteners, using other fasteners will void warranty.
Improper face screwing increases board splitting. We recommend using Armadillo or Turboclip hidden fasteners to avoid this issue.
