6. ADVANCED FEATURES
6.1. Extend a pattern
A pattern can be lengthened in two different ways: by adding blank steps, or by taking the
data from the first 16 steps and copying it to the end of the pattern.
6.1.1. Adding blank steps
The process of adding blank steps involves using the >> button and the Last Step button. This
was covered in section [p.41].
6.1.2. Copy and append
It’s also possible to extend a pattern by copying up to 16 steps of pattern data and attaching
it to the end of the existing pattern. Patterns can be extended up to the maximum length of
64 steps.
To extend a pattern, hold Shift and then press the >> button. This will copy the first 16 steps
of the pattern into the next Step Group, making the pattern 32 steps long.
Here are some rules to keep in mind:
• If the pattern has 16 or more steps, only the first 16 steps are copied and
appended to the end.
• If the pattern is shorter than 16 steps, then that number of steps is copied and
the sequence is doubled in length.
