PLEASE read this entire manual before installation and use of this pellet fuel-burning room heater.
INTRODUCTION This manual describes the installation and operation of the Ashley, APC4000 wood heater. This heater meets the 2015 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's crib wood emission limits for wood heaters sold after May 15, 2015. Under specific test conditions this heater has been shown to deliver heat at rates ranging from 6,569 to 34,785 Btu/hr. Thank you for purchasing your pellet burning stove, you are now prepared to burn wood in the most efficient, convenient way possible.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS • Do not operate your stove if you smell smoke coming from it. Turn it off, monitor it, and call your dealer. • Never use gasoline, gasoline-type lantern fuel, kerosene, charcoal lighter fluid, or similar liquids to start or “freshen up” a fire in this stove. Keep all such liquids well away from the stove while in use. Never block free airflow through the open vents of the stove. • Keep foreign objects out of the hopper. • The stove will not operate during a power outage.

COMBUSTION AIR SUPPLY INSTALLATION For a mobile home installation the stove must be connected to an outside source of combustion air. A 2” inside diameter metallic pipe, either flexible or rigid, may be attached to the inlet at the stove’s rear (refer to figure 4). A rodent guard (minimum ¼” wire mesh)/wind hood must be used at the terminus (refer to figure 5). All connections must be secured and airtight by either using the appropriately sized hose clamp and/or UL-181-AP foil tape.
INSTALLATION Equivalent Vent Length (EVL) The longer the run of pipe in your installation (both with inserts and freestandings), the more restriction there is in the system. Therefore, larger diameter pipe should be used. • Use 4” pipe if you have more than 15 feet of equivalent vent length. • Horizontal runs shall not exceed 10 feet of EVL. • It is recommended that vertical runs be a minimum of 8 feet.
INSTALLATION B. VERTICALLY WITH NEW CHIMNEY SYSTEM (Refer to Figure 7) NOTE: See “VENTING” and follow L-Vent chimney manufacturer’s instructions. OPTION: To achieve a center vertical installation a 45º elbow and a clean-out tee can be used to offset the pipe from the exhaust outlet to the rear center of the stove. OPTION: Install L-Vent elbow in place of clean-out tee. Locate stove. Drop plumb bob to center of tee outlet, mark point on ceiling.
INSTALLATION D. VERTICALLY INTO EXISTING MASONRY FIREPLACE NOTE: See “VENTING” and follow L-Vent chimney manufacturer’s instructions. 1. Have the masonry chimney inspected by a qualified chimney sweep or installer to determine its structural condition. 2. You will need a pipe length equal to the chimney height from the hearth. If outside combustion air is to be used, you will need a pipe length equal to the chimney height plus 18 inches. 3.
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION INSTALLATION This stove is provided with a 6-foot grounded electrical cord extending from the rear of the stove. We recommend connecting to a good quality surge protector that is plugged into a standard three-prong, 120V, 60 Hz electrical outlet. Do NOT connect the unit to a GFCI socket. Voltage variations can lead to serious performance problems. The stoves electrical system is designed for 120V AC with no more than 5% variation.
PANEL CONTROLS (SEE FIGURE 12) OPERATION The blowers and automatic fuel supply are controlled from a panel on the lefthand side of the furnace. The control panel functions are as follows. a. ON/OFF SWITCH • When pushed the stove will automatically ignite. No other firestarter is necessary. The igniter will stay on for at least 10 and up to 15 minutes, depending on when Proof of Fire is reached. The fire should start in about 5 minutes.
PROPER FUEL OPERATION This heater is designed to burn only PFI Premium grade pellets. This appliance can also burn pellets rated as standard after May 16, 2015 DO NOT BURN: 1. Garbage; 10. Salt water driftwood or other previously salt water 2. Lawn clippings or yard waste; saturated materials; 3. Materials containing rubber, including tires; 11. Unseasoned wood; or 4. Materials containing plastic; 12. Paper products, cardboard, plywood, or 5.
THE HOTROD AUTOMATIC FIRESTARTER OPERATION a. Fill hopper and clean burnpot. b. Press “Power” button. Make sure light is on. c. The damper should be completely closed or open no more than ¼” during start-up. This will vary depending on your installation and elevation. Once fire is established adjust for desired flame increasing the amount the damper is open as the heat setting is increased. (See “DAMPER CONTROL”) d. Adjust feed rate to desired setting by pressing “Feed Rate Advance” button.
OPERATION RE-STARTING A WARM STOVE If the stove has been shut off, and you want to re-start it while it is still warm, the “on/off” button must be held down for 2 seconds. IF STOVE RUNS OUT OF PELLETS The fire goes out and the auger motor and blowers will run until the stove cools. This will take 30 to 45 minutes. After the stove components stop running the “Power” and the BAR GRAPH lights stay on for 10 minutes.
OPERATION PLEASE READ THIS! OPERATING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS a. Hot while in operation. Keep children, clothing, and furniture away. Contact may cause skin burns. b. If you notice a smoldering fire (burnpot full but no visible flame) AND a heavy smoke buildup in firebox, im mediately TURN OFF the stove, but DO NOT unplug it. Do not open the door, change the damper setting or tamper with any controls on the stove.
OPTIONAL THERMOSTAT THERMOSTAT INSTALLATION A thermostat may help you maintain a constant house temperature automatically. A millivolt thermostat is required. A fixed wall mount or a hand held model can be used. The control panel can be set up two ways to operate your stove in thermostat mode. NOTE: YOUR THERMOSTAT SHOULD BE INSTALLED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER OR SERVICE PERSON. On/Off High/Low Manual THERMOSTAT INSTALLATION • • • • A MILLIVOLT THERMOSTAT IS REQUIRED. Unplug stove from power outlet.
MAINTENANCE FAILURE TO CLEAN AND MAINTAIN THIS UNIT AS INDICATED CAN RESULT IN POOR PERFORMANCE AND SAFETY HAZARDS. NEVER CLEAN WHEN HOT. NOTE: Inspect burn pot periodically to see that holes have not become plugged, if so, clean thoroughly. ASH REMOVAL Ashes should be placed in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid. The closed container or ashes should be placed on a non-combustible surface or on the ground, well away from all combustible materials pending final disposal.
CLEANING MAINTENANCE a. Heat Exchange Tubes – Your stove is designed with a built-in heat exchange tube cleaner. This should be used every two or three days to remove accumulated ash on the tubes, which reduces heat transfer on this furnace. Insert the handle end (with hole) of the cleaning tool onto the cleaning rod (refer to figure 15). The cleaner rod is located in the grill above the stove door. Move the cleaner rod back and forth several times to clean the heat exchanger tubes.
MAINTENANCE CHIMNEY CLEANING a. Creosote Formation – When any wood is burned slowly, it produces tar and other organic vapors, which combine with expelled moisture to form creosote. The creosote vapors condense in the relatively cool chimney flue or a newly started fire or from a slow-burning fire. As a result, creosote residue accumulates on the flue lining. When ignited, this creosote makes an extremely hot fire, which may damage the chimney or even destroy the house.
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE When your stove acts out of the ordinary, the first reaction is to call for help. This guide may save time and money by enabling you to solve simple problems yourself. Problems encountered are often the result of only five factors: 1) poor fuel; 2) poor operation or maintenance; 3) poor installation; 4) component failure; 5) factory defect. You can usually solve those problems related to 1 and 2. Your dealer can solve problems relating to 3, 4 and 5.
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE STOVE SHUTS OFF AND THE #3 LIGHT FLASHES Possible Causes: Possible Remedies: (Unplug stove first when possible) 1. The hopper is out of pellets. Refill the hopper. 2. The air damper is too far open for a low feed setting. If burning on the low setting, you may need to close the damper all the way (push the knob in so it touches the side of the stove). 3. The burnpot is not pushed completely to the rear of the firebox.
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE STOVE FEEDS PELLETS, BUT WILL NOT IGNITE Possible Causes: Possible Remedies: 1. Air damper open too far for ignition. Push the air damper in closer to the side of the stove for startup. In some situations it may be necessary to have the damper completely closed for ignition to take place. After there is a flame, the damper can then be adjusted for the desired feed setting. 2. Blockage in igniter tube or inlet for igniter tube.
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE STOVE WILL NOT FEED PELLETS, BUT FUEL FEED LIGHT COMES ON AS DESIGNED Possible Causes: Possible Remedies: 1. Fuse on control board blew Remove the control board. If the fuse appears to be bad, replace it with a 5 Amp 125 Volt fuse. Plug the stove back in and try to run the unit. 2. High limit switch has tripped or is defective Wait for the stove to cool for about 30 - 45 minutes. It should now function normally. If not use the owner’s manual to locate the high limit thermodisk.
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE • • • GLASS “SOOT’S” UP AT A VERY FAST RATE FLAME IS LAZY, DARK, AND HAS BLACK TIPS AFTER STOVE HAS BEEN ON FOR A WHILE, THE BURNPOT OVERFILLS Possible Causes: Possible Remedies: 1. Stove or vent pipe is dirty, which restricts airflow through the burnpot. Follow all cleaning procedure in the maintenance section of the owner’s manual. 2. Vent pipe installed improperly. Check to make sure the vent pipe has been installed according to the criteria in the owner’s manual. 3.

Dans certains cas, il peut être nécessaire de fermer complètement le volet pour l’allumage. Quand une flamme s’est formée, on peut régler le volet en fonction de la vitesse d’alimentation. Le tableau de contrôle n’envoie pas de courant à l’allumeur 5. Mettre le courant directement sur l’allumeur.

Le moteur de la vis sans fin a lâché. 8. Commencez par vider la trémie puis enlevez le moteur de la vis sans fin en retirant la fixation. Retirez la plaque d’inspection de l’arbre de la vis sans fin dans la trémie, vous pouvez voir l’arbre de la vis sans fin.
GUIDE DE DÉPANNAGE Quand votre poêle ne se comporte pas comme d’habitude, la première réaction est d’appeler à l’aide. Ce guide peut vous faire gagner du temps et de l’argent en vous permettant de résoudre vous-même les problèmes simples. Les problèmes rencontrés sont souvent le résultat de seulement cinq facteurs 1) Combustible médiocre; 2) Entretien ou maintenance insuffisants; 3) Installation médiocre; 4) Composant défectueux; 5) Défaut de fabrication. Vous pouvez en général agir sur les points 1 et 2.
NETTOYAGE DE LA CHEMINÉE ENTRETIEN a. Formation de la créosote – Chaque fois qu’on brûle du bois lentement, cela produit du goudron et d’autres vapeurs organiques qui se combi nent avec l’humidité ambiante pour former de la créosote. Les vapeurs de créosote se condensent dans un conduit de cheminée peu chaud ou dans un feu qui vient de démarrer ou dans un feu qui brûle lentement. Les résidus de créosote s’accumulent donc sur le revêtement du conduit de cheminée.
NETTOYAGE ENTRETIEN a. Tuyaux de l’échangeur de chaleur. Votre poêle est conçu avec un nettoyeur de tuyau d’échangeur de chaleur d’origine. Celui ci doit être utilisé tous les deux ou trois jours pour retirer la cendre accumulée sur les tuyaux, ce qui réduit l’efficacité de l’appareil. In sérez l’extrémité de la poignée (trouée) de l’appareil de nettoyage dans la tige de nettoyage (se reporter à la figure 14). La tige de nettoyage est située dans la grille au dessus de la porte du poêle.
ENTRETIEN IL PEUT Y AVOIR DES PERFORMANCES MÉDIOCRES ET DES PROBLÈMES DE SÉCURITÉ EN L’ABSENCE DE L’ENTRETIEN ET DU NETTOYAGE DE CET APPAREIL PRÉVUS DANS LA NOTICE. NE JAMAIS NETTOYER QUAND IL EST CHAUD. NOTE: Contrôlez le foyer régulièrement pour voir si les orifices sont bouchés, il faudrait alors les nettoyer à fond. ÉVACUATION DES CENDRES Les cendres doivent être entreposées dans un récipient métallique avec un couvercle bien fermé.
MESURES DE SÉCURITÉ FONCTIONNEMENT PRENEZ LA PEINE DE LIRE CECI! a. Attention à la chaleur pendant l’utilisation. Éloignez les enfants, les vêtements et les meubles. Danger de brûlure en cas de contact avec la peau. b. Si vous remarquez un feu qui couve (ou que le foyer est plein, sans flamme visible) ET qu’une fumée épaisse s’accumule dans la chambre de combustion, mettez immédiatement le poêle en mode « OFF», mais NELE débranchez pas.
INSTALLATION DU THERMOSTAT THERMOSTAT OPTIONNEL Un thermostat peut vous aider à maintenir automatiquement une température d’intérieur constante. Une unité murale ou un modèle portatif peut être utilisé. Le tableau de contrôle peut être prévu de deux manières pour surveiller votre poêle en mode thermostat. INSTALLATION DU THERMOSTAT On/Off High/Low Manual • UN THERMOSTAT MILLIVOLT EST NÉCESSAIRE • Débranchez le poêle de la prise. • Retirez la carte de contrôle du poêle.
REDÉMARRER UN POÊLE CHAUD FONCTIONNEMENT Si le poêle n’a pas été en fonctionnement, et que vous voulez le redémarrer pendant qu’il est encore chaud, il faut appuyer de manière continue sur le bouton «On/Off» pendant 2 secondes. QUAND LE POÊLE N’A PLUS DE GRANULÉS Le feu s’éteint et le moteur de la vis sans fin et les ventilateurs vont continuer à fonctionner jusqu’à ce que le poêle refroidisse.
PRÉPARER UN FEU FONCTIONNEMENT N’utilisez jamais une grille ou d’autres moyens de supporter le combustible. Utilisez uniquement le pot de combustion approuvé Pendant le démarrage du feu: 1) NE PAS ouvrir la porte vitrée. 2) NE PAS ouvrir le volet de plus de ¼” (env. 6 mm). 3) NE PAS ajouter des granulés à la main dans le foyer. 4) NE PAS utiliser le bouton d’alimentation (Fuel Feed) (sauf si vos êtres en train d’amorcer la vis sans fin après avoir été à court de granulés).
INSTALLATION ÉLECTRIQUE FONCTIONNEMENT Ce poêle est muni d’un cordon électrique à la terre de 6 pieds s’étendant de l’arrière du poêle. Nous recommandons de raccorder à un parasurtenseur de bonne qualité qui est branché sur une à trois broches standard, 120V, prise électrique de 60 Hz. NE PAS connecter l’appareil à une prise GFCI. Les variations de tension peuvent conduire à des problèmes de performance graves. Le système électrique est conçu pour 120V, sans variation de plus de 5%.
FONCTIONNEMENT TABLEAU DE CONTRÔLE (VOIR FIGURE 11) Les souffleries et l’alimentation automatique en combustible sont contrôlés par un panneau situé sur la partie gauche du L’appareil de chauffage. Le tableau de contrôle fonctionne de la manière suivante: a. INTERRUPTEUR ON/OFF • Le poêle va s’allumer automatiquement lorsqu’on pousse cet interrupteur. Aucune autre aide à l’allumage n’est nécessaire. L’allumage va rester enclenché pour 10 à 15 minutes, jusqu’à ce que la «preuve de feu» soit atteinte.
INSTALLATION E. INSTALLATION SUR LE CÔTÉ D’UNE CHEMINÉE EN MAÇONNERIE NOTE: Suivez les instructions du fabricant des évents de cheminée. 1. Positionnez le poêle en respectant les dégagements (cf fig 1 & 2). Marquez le centre du trou là où le tuyau va percer la cheminée en maçonnerie. 2. Il va falloir abattre la maçonnerie autour de la marque faite précédemment. Prévoir un trou de 4’’ (env. 10 cm) de diamètre pour un tuyau de 3’’ (env. 7,6 cm) ou de 5” (env. 12 cm) de diamètre pour un tuyau de 4’’ (env.
INSTALLATION B. VERTICALEMENT AVEC LE NOUVEAU SYSTÈME DE CHEMINÉE (cf figure 7) NOTE: Suivez les instructions du fabricant des évents de cheminée. OPTION: Pour réaliser une installation verticale centrée, un coude à 45° et un té de nettoyage peuvent être utilisés pour déboiter le tuyau de la sortie d’évacuation au centre arrière du poêle. OPTION: Installer le coude de l’évent à la place du té de nettoyage. Positionnez le poêle.
LONGUEUR D’ÉVENT ÉQUIVALENT (EVL) INSTALLATION Plus le tuyau est long dans cette installation, plus il y a de restrictions dans le système. C’est pourquoi il faut utiliser des tuyaux de bon diamètre. • Utiliser du tuyau de 4’’ (env. 10,16 cm) si le système de ventilation a 15 pieds (env. 4,57 m) ou plus d’EVL. • Les tronçons horizontaux ne doivent pas dépasser 10’ (ennv. 3, 5 m) d’EVL. • Les tronçons verticaux doivent représenter au moins 8’ (env. 2,44 m).
INSTALLATION ALIMENTATION EN AIR DE COMBUSTION Pour l’installation dans un mobile-home, le poêle doit être connecté à une source extérieure d’air de combustion. Un tuyau métallique de diamètre intérieur 2”(env. 5,1 cm), flexible ou rigide, peut être connecté à l’appareil à l’arrière du poêle (cf. figure 4). Une protection contre les rongeurs (un grillage d’au moins ¼” (env. 0,63 cm))/ bonnet antivent doit être utilisé au sommet (cf. figure 5).

Ce chauffage respecte les limites d’émission 2015 de bois en caisson de la U.S. Environmental Protection Agency pour les chauffages au bois solide après le 15 mai 2015. Sous les conditions spécifiques du test, ce chauffage a démontré un taux de chauffage de 6,569 à 34,785 Btu/h.
