Chapter 1 Getting started Overview ASUS System Web-based Management (ASWM) Enterprise is an ASUS-exclusive web-based app that allows you to set up a management system environment for tracking, monitoring, and controlling your network clients from one server PC running on Windows® 7/8/8.1 Pro. You must have an administrator privilege to track, manage, and control these clients either locally (from the server PC) or remotely (via a web browser).

Installing ASWM Enterprise • SQL Server Express 2005 (or later) is installed in the server PC. • Ensure that your server PC meets the system requirements for ASWM installation. For details, refer to the section Server PC system requirements. • You are logged in as administrator in the server PC. ENGLISH IMPORTANT! Before installing ASWM Enterprise, ensure the following: To install ASWM Enterprise: 1. Download the latest version of ASWM Enterprise from http://www.asus.
Wait for a few minutes while ASWM Enterprise is installing on your server PC. 5. ASWM Enterprise automatically checks the installed system requirements on your server PC. Click Next to continue. 6. Select an Authentication type and click Connection Test to proceed. ENGLISH 4.
Ensure that your system has meet the requirements stated in the reminder notice, then click OK. 8. After ASWM Enterprise is successfully installed on your server PC, click Close to exit the ASWM setup wizard. ENGLISH 7. Uninstalling ASWM Enterprise To uninstall ASWM Enterprise: 1. Click Start > All Programs > ASWM Enterprise > Uninstall.
2. ENGLISH Click Yes on the confirmation message. Wait until the uninstallation process is completed. Logging into ASWM Enterprise To log into ASWM Enterprise: 1. To log in locally (from the server PC), click the ASWM Enterprise icon on the Windows desktop. To log in remotely (via a web browser), enter this ASWM Enterprise web address: http://hostnma(IP)/aswment 2. Click Enter. 3.
ENGLISH IMPORTANT! To change the login name and password, refer to the section Account Management. NOTE: When logging in as User, there are limitations/restrictions as listed below: • Only limited functions, including Monitor and Account Management are available. • HW Sensor is read-only. You cannot customize the threshold. • You cannot delete the EventLog, but you are allowed to use the Advanced Search function. • Utilization is read-only. You cannot customize the threshold.
ASWM Home screen ENGLISH Full screen view Click this banner to switch to the full screen view and press to return to the normal window view. You cannot enter text in the full screen view. Navigation menu Click any of the items in this menu to access the ASWM functions such as health monitoring, account management, deployment management, centralized management, and server configuration. Refer to the next chapters for more details about these functions.
Chapter 2 ENGLISH Deploying ASWM Deploying new ASWM Enterprise agent Install or deploy ASWM Enterpise agents on your network clients and add them the ASWM Enterprise server PC for convenient management, monitor, and control. ASWM Enterprise client agent system requirement • .NET Framework 3.
Click Deploy New ASWM Enterprise Agent. 3. The wizard guides you through the deployment process. Click Start to continue. ENGLISH 2.
Select Automatically Scan the Active Directory and click Next to continue. The system automatically scans the directory for agents. 5. Select the Domain and click Scan. ENGLISH 4. Click Enable Group and select a group to downsize the scanning range. Doing this shortens the time for agent deployment.
Log in as administrator. 7. Wait for a while until the scanning process is finished. ENGLISH 6.
8. Select the clients to which you want to deploy agents, and click Start. Your selected clients must have the Support status in the SupportStatus field. Click the clients with the Not Support status to display the details for the status. • T he client (agent PC) runs on a supported Windows® operating system. For details on Agent PC OS Support, refer to the section Supported platforms. • .NET 3.5 is installed in the client. • ASWM Enterprise Agent is installed in the client.
9. Wait until the agent deployment process is finished. Click Finish to close the screen. ENGLISH Manually deploy the ASWM Enterprise agents To manually deploy the ASWM Enterprise agents: 18 1. On the navigation menu, click Deployment Management. 2. Click Deploy New ASWM Enterprise Agent.
The wizard guides you through the deployment process. Click Start to continue. 4. Select Manual Deploy the ASWM Enterprise Agent and click Next to continue. ENGLISH 3.
5. Click Add Target PC and do the following: ENGLISH a) Select the target PC type as either IP Address or Host Name. b) Select the account type as either Local Account or Domain Account. c) Log in as administrator. d) Click Save. 6. Click Scan and wait until the scanning process is finished. NOTE: You can also click the Import button to import a deploy table manually. 20 6. From the scanning result, select the clients to which you want to deploy agents, and click Start. 6.
Discovering clients with preload service (ThinClient mode) ENGLISH The ThinClient mode allows you to search for Thin Clients (such as TC-710) in the same network for multiple client deployment via the ASWM Enterprise. NOTE: Ensure that the ThinClient is turned on and is connected to the same network as the server PC. To discover clients with preload service: 1. Select Discover Clients with preload service and click Next to search for the ThinClient in the network. 2.
3. Click Discovery to search again. ENGLISH NOTE: Set the firewall in the server PC properly since the Discovery function sends broadcast packet through the server PC. 22 4. Under the Install column, select the Thin Client, and click Start to install the agent. 5. Wait until the installation/deployment process is completed.
Removing ASWM Enterprise agents You are allowed to remove the ASWM Enterprise agents from the server PC or in Active Directory. ENGLISH Removing the ASWM agents from the server PC To remove the agents from the server PC: 1. On the navigation menu, click Deployment Management. 2. Click Remove ASWM Enterprise Agent.
The wizard guides you through the uninstallation process. Click Start to continue. 4. Click Scan the self ASWM Enterprise Main Server and click Next to continue. The system scans the server PC. ENGLISH 3.
Select the clients whose ASWM agents you want to uninstall and click Start. ENGLISH 5. NOTE: To narrow down your selection, tick any of these options: Select all clients, Select all offline clients, or Select all online clients. 6. The server automatically removes the agents on the selected clients. When done, the status is displayed as Success. Click Finish to close the screen.
Removing ASWM agents in the active directory ENGLISH To remove the existing agents: 26 1. On the navigation menu, click Deployment Management. 2. Click Remove ASWM Enterprise Agent.
The wizard guides you through the uninstallation process. Click Start to continue. 5. Click Automatically Scan the Active Directory and click Next to continue. The system scans the active directory. ENGLISH 3.
Select the clients whose ASWM agents you want to uninstall and click Start. 5. The server automatically removes the agents on the selected clients. When done, the status is displayed as Success. Click Finish to close the screen. ENGLISH 6.
Chapter 3 ENGLISH Server PC functions Monitor The overview screen quickly gives you the overall status for all your clients. You are also allowed to shut down, restart or start some selected clients. Quickly check the overall status for your clients To quickly check the overall status for your clients: 1. On the navigation menu, click Monitor. 2. Select a group from the Group List. The group shows the information such as Client Counts, Connection, Health, and Utilization status.

ENGLISH In the Models In the XXX Group, the general monitoring information of all clients in this group is displayed, including Connection status, Model Name, Alias Name, Operating system, BMC WebGUI status, and Health status. IMPORTANT! • Under the BMC WebGUI column, the crossed-out BMC card means that the BMC is not installed in that client. • Under the BMC WebGUI column, the status NO means that the WebGUI is inaccessible. • When you click BMC WebGUI, a pop-up window appears.
You can select Restart or PowerOFF if the client appears online. 3. You can select Maintain Mode to enable or disable the Maintain Mode function. ENGLISH 2. IMPORTANT! PowerON is available only when the selected client appears Offline and you have installed ASMB card on that client or on our Thin Client product that has the Wake On LAN function. NOTES: • You can also power off or restart the selected client after entering Monitor.
Account Management Account Management allows you to see the current login account and edit that account. ENGLISH When you are log in as a user, you can only use limited functions, including Monitor and Account Management. Other functions are dimmed and are not available. Displaying the current login account Click Account Management on the navigation menu to display the Login Account, Account, and Role Privilege tabs. Click the Login Account tab to display current Login Account.
Editing the login account ENGLISH Click Edit Account to edit the login account. Click Save when done. NOTE: The Account E-Mail shows in the Email Settings of Client Configuration. Account Click Account Management on the navigation menu to display the Login Account, Account, and Role Privilege tabs. Click the Account tab to display Account Role and Account Role members of the account.
ENGLISH You can click Add Account to add a new accont. In Edit Acconunt / Add Account of the Account Role section, you can specify the Account Role for this Account. The Administrator also can tick / untick Account Enable to enable or disable the account. Role privilege Click the Role Privilege tab to display the functions that an account role/type can use or access. Functions with checkmarks indicate that the account role/type can use/access these functions.
Deployment Management ENGLISH You can deploy ASWM Enterprise agents and remove agents through the active directory or manually. NOTE: For more details, refer to Chapter 2: Deploying ASWM. Centralized Management BIOS Flash Centralized Management 1. Click Centralized Management on the navigation menu and click BIOS Flash Centralized Management.
2. Select the online clients whose BIOS versions you want to update. The system detects the latest BIOS versions from ASUS support site and shows them in the LatestVersion field. ENGLISH For online clients with BMC, select the clients and tick the LocatorLED and Reboot checkboxes for these clients. NOTE: The Live Update function of BIOS Flash automatically detects the latest BIOS in ASUS support site. The new BIOS information is displayed in the column of LatestVersion.
1. Click Centralized Management on the navigation menu and click Remote Control Centralized Management. 2. Select the ASWM Enterprise Group, select the client, and click Connect to remotely manage your selected client.
3. Enter the administrator password. ENGLISH IMPORTANT! Before using the remote control management function, ensure that the the remote desktop function is enabled in the client.
1. Click Centralized Management on the navigation menu and click Power Control Centralized Management. 2. Select the clients that you want to simultaneously put in Maintain mode, turn On, turn Off, or Restart. 3. Click Start to begin the power control management process.
ThinClient EWF Centralized Management ENGLISH ThinClients with Windows Embedded operating system can support the EWF function. The centralized management interface allows you to manage multiple Thin Clients in a single page. IMPORTANT! • When you select the group, only the Thin Clients with EWF support will be displayed. • For more details, refer to the section ThinClient Features. The EWF centralized management allows you to enable or disable the EWF feature to all the disks in selected ThinClients.
Software Dispatch Centralized Management This function allows the administrators to dispatch one software to several clients. Select software list (create in software pool) and the target clients. ENGLISH 1. NOTE: Refer to the section Software Pool to create a software pool. 2. Set the dispatch time, or tick Dispatch Now to dispatch immediately. 3. Click Add Software Dispatch Task to start the task. The software dispatch status is displayed.
Report Management ENGLISH This function allows you to configure the report management. Asset Report Management To configure asset report management: 1. 42 View the Asset Tag, Serial Number, Processor, Memory, Disk, RAID and NIC Information.
Click Option to select the field that you want to show in the table. ENGLISH 2. Software Dispatch Report Management To configure the software dispatch report management: 1. From the dropdown list, select the dispatch task name to view the dispatch status.
2. ENGLISH Tick Auto Refresh to refresh the dispatch status. Select the dispatch task whose detailed dispatch information you want to view. Click Export Report to export the current fields in .csv format. Agent Connection Report Management The Agent Connection Report lists the server PC's start and shutdown time and the clients that are in Maintain mode. NOTE: Use the Filter function to list the continuous report after the specified date.
Server Configuration ENGLISH You are allowed to do general server configurations, including SMTP server, SNMP Trap, security, etc.. SMTP Server To set up the SMTP server: 1. Set up the SMTP server information when you would like to send email notifications. Click Edit SMTP Setting to fill in the fields. 2. Click Send Test E-Mail and enter a receiver's E-Mail to see if the SMTP server has been successfully set up. If so, click Save to save the configuration.
Security ENGLISH You can set the Access Control List to allow or deny access for specific IP addresses. Fill in the necessary fields and click Add New ACL Rule to add an IP address to the control list. Use the ACL Rule Test to test if the IP address has been added successfully. NOTE: Click Export ACL Rule or Import ACL Rule to export or import ACL Rule. SNMP Trap Fill in the necessary fields and click Add Profile to add the SNMP Trap profile. If you would like to edit the profile, click Edit Profile.
ASWM Group ENGLISH You can add new ASWM Groups or edit the existing groups. The clients’ information in each group is displayed when the group is selected. NOTE: You cannot delete the DefaultGroup and all the clients will be regrouped under DefaultGroup when their groups are deleted. BIOS The BIOS screen displays all the BIOS cache information. The ASWM Enterprise automatically detects and downloads the lates BIOS files from the ASUS support site.
DataBase ENGLISH You can view the database information of ASWM Enterprise. Software Pool This function allows you to create the software list from where you can select and dispatch the software to clients. To set up a software pool: 1. 48 Click Add Software.
2. Assign the software name and click Next Step - Upload Files. • The setup file or the installation file with .exe, .msi, .msu or .zip (for several files) format. • The script file, which is the installation script for the setup file, with .bat file format. ENGLISH IMPORTANT! The following two files must be uploaded: NOTE: • Before dispatching large amount of files, ensure that you test the files first and that you upload the correct files.
Monitor ENGLISH You can enable or disable the Connection Monitor function that monitors the connection between Main Server and Agent. Click Setting to set the detailed monitor information. Notify Type: online and/or offline notification; Threshold: set the upper time limit for offline. For example, 30 seconds means the connection status will be seen as offline if the last connection between Agent and server is 30 seconds ago.
Chapter 4 ENGLISH Monitoring clients Monitor Overview You can view the detailed monitoring information of each client in realtime. 1. Click Monitor on the navigation menu. 2. Select a group from the Group List.
Select a client that you want to monitor. 4. You can now view the Client Information of your selected client. ENGLISH 3. Click to show the model pictures Display the general client information Click to control the client remotely Click to power off or restart the client Click to show the monitor summary of hardware and utilization sensors The function area NOTES: 52 • The BMC button is available only when you have installed a BMC card on your client. • Under Client Information > more...
HW Sensor ENGLISH Hardware sensors allows you to monitor for voltage, fans, temperature and backplanes. You can have a realtime notification of each component with colored signals or customize your warning threshold. Return to the previous Client Information screen Click to switch the sensor tabs. The colored signal and the number indicate the health status of the sensors (critical or warning). Scroll down for more sensors Display the realtime value.
Setting the threshold ENGLISH Click the dashboard to customize your own threshold value, including High Critical, High Warning, Low Warning, and Low Critical. To set the threshold: 1. Click the dashboard that you want to customize. 2. Move the slider to adjust the threshold value. 3. Click OK to save the configuration. NOTE: The value of High Warning must be lower than High Critical. The value of Low Warning must be higher than Low Critical.
Hardware sensor tabs Voltage ENGLISH Scroll down for more voltage dashboards or click Return to go back to the previous Client Information screen. Fan This screen displays the threshold fan status and power supply-related discrete fan sensor.
Temperature ENGLISH This screen displays the device threshold temperature and power supply-related discrete temperature sensor. Backplane This screen displays the blackplane status, including Drive Presence, Drive Not Exist, Fault, and Rebuild. Click Return to go back to the previous Client Information screen. NOTE: This tab is only available when your system is equipped with backplanes.
Power Supply ENGLISH This screen displays the power supply-related sensor such as the power consumption (Watt), if the power cord cable is connected to the power supply, and if the power supply is installed to the server properly. Click Return to go back to the previous Client Information screen. Chassis This screen displays the chassis status. If the chassis of the client is opened, the Chassis Intrusion Lock icon will display as unlock. Click Return to go to the previous Client Information screen.
Inventory ENGLISH Inventory shows the general disk info of your installed hard disk drive, optical disk drive, and the connected external disk drive. Disk Info Disk Information The disk information screen includes Name, Media Type, Status, Manufacturer, Size, S.M.A.R.T Support and S.M.A.R.T Status. Click to show the disk information Scroll down for more items.

Device Manager ENGLISH The Device Manager displays all the devices installed on the client. To check the device properties: 60 1. Click Device Manager tab on the top. 2. Click the category to expand and show the devices. 3. Click the device to show the device properties.
Event Log ENGLISH ASWM Enterprise automatically creates and records all the significant events happening on your system in the event logs. Click the tabs (ASWM Enterprise, Application, System, Security and Agent Connection) on the top to browse the different categories. The level types are Information, Warning and Error. NOTE: ASWM Enterprise Main Server routinely checks the status of Agent Connection.
Advanced Search ENGLISH Click Advanced Search to use the Event Log Filter to locate your preferred log more quickly. Filtering by Time Span If you select Filter by Time Span, you can decide and search your preferred time period for the logs. Filtering by Counts of Record If you select Filter by Counts of Record, you can decide the number of the logs you would like to see. Click the arrow buttons to increase or decrease the number, or you can enter a preferred number directly.
Clean EventLog ENGLISH Click Clean EventLog to clear all the event logs stored in a client. Export EventLog Click Export EventLog to export a *.csv file to a client.
Utilization ENGLISH Utilization Sensor shows the utilization status of disk drives, CPU, Memory and Network. You can customize the threshold value of each sensor for sending notifications. Partition The Partition screen shows the information of your installed hard disk drives and the connected external storage devices. Move the slider under the disk drive icons to set the warning threshold.
Memory ENGLISH This screen shows the total physical memory, used memory, available memory, and memory utilization status. Network This screen shows the general information of the network and network utilization status.
Software ENGLISH NOTE: Click Auto Refresh to refresh the monitoring screen automatically. Application Displays all the installed applications on this client and their general information. Service Displays the status of each installed applications. Right-click a service and you can start, restart or stop the selected service. NOTE: If the Start Mode of the selected service shows Disabled, you cannot control that service.
Process ENGLISH Displays the process of the running applications. To end the process of the running application: 1. Right-click the running application that you would like to stop. 2. Select End Process:XXXXX.
Environment Variables ENGLISH Displays the environment variables. Software Dispatch Software Dispatch allows you to dispatch an application to the assigned clients. To use this function, add a new dispatch task that includes the application name created in the software pool, the target client, and the dispatch time. NOTES: • Refer to the section Software Pool to create a software pool.
From the Software List dropdown field, select the application that you want to dispatch to a client and enter a task name and task discription. 3. Assign the dispatch time or tick Dispatch Now to dispatch immediately. 4. Click Add when done. The dispatch status for the newly-created dispatch task is displayed on the task list. ENGLISH 2.
5. When the dispatch task is completed, the dispatch status is displayed on the task list. Click the dispatch status to display the dispatch task’s detailed information. ENGLISH Export function Click Export button to export a *.csv file.
Security Security function allows you to manage your USB Flash and Registry Tool safely. USB Flash management 1. Click USB Flash tab to view the status of the USB flash disk. 2. Click Edit USB Flash Setting to change the current status. When done, click Save. ASUS ASWM Enterprise ENGLISH Use this function to prevent other users from copying a client’s files to their USB flash disks.
Regedit Tool ENGLISH Regedit.exe is a built-in registry editor in Windows OS. To improve the system security, follow these steps to disable the Regedit.exe in Windows OS: 72 1. Click the Regedit Tool tab to view the status in Regedit Tool. 2. Click Edit Regedit Tool Setting to change the current setting. When done, click Save.
WatchDog ENGLISH WatchDog automatically detects your server and protects it against crashes. Select enable/disable to enable or disable this function.
BMC BMC Information displays the general information of the installed BMC card. ENGLISH NOTE: This button is available only when you BMC card to the client client. Click to check or delete the SEL information Left: system message LED Right: system locator LED. Click to turn on/off the locator LED Click to connect BMC Web-GUI NOTE: Ensure that your web browser does not block the pop-up window. Click to check the SEL (System Event Log) records of BMC.
ENGLISH SEL Setting allows you to enable or disable the SEL Backup Function, and set the upper limit of SEL usage. NOTE: When SEL entries in IPMI device reach the upper limit of SEL Usage (in percent), the ASWM Enterprise will back up and then clean them until the remaining entries occupy a lower ratio (in percent) of SEL usage. BIOS Flash BIOS Flash screen displays your current BIOS information and you can configure the settings of BIOS Flash.
ENGLISH NOTES: • Tick Reboot After BIOS Flash to reboot your system after updating the BIOS. • If you have installed a BMC card to your system, tick Turn On (BMC only) to turn on the Locator LED. The latest BIOS version is displayed when a new BIOS is detected. You can also click to check the release note of this version. Configuration Information Click Edit Information to relocate this client to another group or change its Alias Name.
Network ENGLISH You can remotely control the network to enable / disable the DHCP, configure IP addresses and DNS, and change the Subnet Mask and Default Gateway. The Enable connection failure recovery setting ensures that if the network configuration test fails, the system automatically reverts to the original network settings. Notification You can set up the notification types, including sending SNMP Traps and Emails, or you can just keep the event logs.
Email Setting ENGLISH You can select the E-mail address from your contacts or manually enter the E-mail address. Use semicolons if you have multiple recipients. Customizing notifications for each sensor You can the select the notification methods of Hardware and Utilization sensors.
Remote Control Remote Control allows you to open the Remote Desktop and control the client remotely. Click Connect to allow the Remote Desktop Connection. 2. Confirm the name of the remote client and click Connect to start the connection. ENGLISH 1. IMPORTANT! You have to enable the Remote Desktop on your client before using the remote control function.
ThinClient features ENGLISH When monitoring a ThinClient, the Function Area will be different from that of the Server PC’s function area: 1. HW sensor changes to EWF (see below) 2. BMC changes to Security (see below) NOTE: The ThinClient is powered on through WOL, ensure that the switch / router can forward WOL packet. EWF (Enhanced Write Filter) When monitoring the ThinClient, you can view and configure the EWF (Enhanced Write Filter).
To configure the EWF: Click Edit Setting to configure EWF. 2. Double-click the partition on which you want to configure the EWF. 3. On the Pending Command dropdown list, select any of these options to configure the EWF status ENGLISH 1. • No Command: Keeps the current EWF or removes the previous Pending Command. • Enable: Enables EWF. • Disable: Disables EWF. • ommit And Disable: Write the changes of all the files to the hard drive and disable C EWF.
3. When done, click Save to save the changes. ENGLISH Configure HORM (Hibernate Once, Resume Many) 1. You can configure HORM while configuring EWF. Ensure to enable EWF of each partition when enabling HORM function. NOTE: While enabling the HORM function, put the system on hibernate mode.. 2. After finish configuring EWF and HORM, click Save and the Client settings will update immediately. NOTE: The Client may reboot for one or several times for the EWF configuration to take effect.
