Safety precautions Using your Notebook PC This Notebook PC should only be used in environments with ambient temperatures between 5°C (41°F) and 35°C (95°F). Refer to the rating label on the bottom of your Notebook PC and ensure that your power adapter complies with this rating. Do not leave your Notebook PC on your lap or near any part of your body to prevent discomfort or injury from heat exposure. Do not use damaged power cords, accessories, and other peripherals with your Notebook PC.
Caring for your Notebook PC Disconnect the AC power and remove the battery pack (if applicable) before cleaning your Notebook PC. Use a clean cellulose sponge or chamois cloth dampened with a solution of nonabrasive detergent and a few drops of warm water. Remove any extra moisture from your Notebook PC using a dry cloth. Do not use strong solvents such as thinners, benzene, or other chemicals on or near your Notebook PC. Do not place objects on top of your Notebook PC.
Proper disposal Do not throw your Notebook PC in municipal waste. This product has been designed to enable proper reuse of parts and recycling. The symbol of the crossed out wheeled bin indicates that the product (electrical, electronic equipment and mercurycontaining button cell battery) should not be placed in municipal waste. Check local regulations for disposal of electronic products. Do not throw the battery in municipal waste.

Touch screen panel Your Notebook PC comes with a detachable touch screen panel that works like a tablet PC to suit your mobile needs. The touch screen panel is also equipped with its own features for work and play which can be accessed using touch screen panel gestures. NOTE: For more details on using the touch screen panel, refer to the Touch screen panel features and Using touch screen panel gestures sections in this manual.

Front Camera The built-in front camera allows you to take pictures or record videos using your Notebook PC. Camera indicator The camera indicator lights up when the built-in camera is in use. Ambient light sensor The ambient light sensor detects the amount of ambient light in your environment. It allows the system to automatically adjust the brightness of the display depending on the ambient light condition.
Bottom side PC dock slot This slot is magnetic and aligns conveniently with the magnetic PC dock tab to securely attach the touch screen panel to its PC dock. WARNING! • The PC dock slot is magnetic Please keep out of children’s reach. • Magnetic fields generated by mobile devices may damage data on magnetic storage media, such as credit cards, computer discs or tapes. Do not place your device next to such media.
PC dock features NOTE: The keyboard's layout may vary per region or country. Top view e 1 2 3 - 0 Power indicator This indicator lights up when the PC dock is turned on. Power switch Move this switch to the left to turn on the PC dock. Caps lock indicator This indicator lights up when the caps lock function is activated. Enabling the caps lock function on your keyboard allows you to automatically type letters in upper-case form (e.g. A, B, C).
PC dock hinge This hinge supports the touch screen panel while it is connected to the PC dock. It also holds the touch screen panel in place while you adjust it into different viewing angles. ASUS Console key Press this button to launch the ASUS Console app launcher. Numeric keypad on keyboard Using the function key, you can toggle between using these keys according to their original function or using them as a numeric keypad.
Rear view PC dock tab The magnetic PC dock tab securely attaches the touch screen panel to the PC dock. Attach the touch screen panel to the PC dock by aligning the PC dock slot on top of this tab. Once attached, you can adjust the touch screen panel according to your preferred viewing angle. WARNING! • The PC dock tab is magnetic. Please keep out of children’s reach. • Magnetic fields generated by mobile devices may damage data on magnetic storage media, such as credit cards, computer discs or tapes.
Docking the touch screen panel Align the touch screen panel on top of the PC dock tab as illustrated below. NOTE: The PC dock slot and the PC dock tab have magnetic parts. The pull between these magnets help align the touch screen panel to securely connect it with the PC dock.
Undocking the touch screen panel Press the release button on the PC dock to securely detach the touch screen panel from the PC dock tab, then gently pull out the touch screen panel.
Left Side The following hardware features located on your touch screen panel and PC dock can be used while working on your Notebook PC. NOTE: The following hardware features on the touch screen panel also work when using the device as a tablet. USB 3.0 port This Universal Serial Bus 3.0 (USB 3.0) port provides a transfer rate of up to 5 Gbit/s and is backward compatible to USB 2.0.
Power (DC) input port Insert the bundled power adapter into this port to charge the battery pack and supply power to your Notebook PC. WARNING! The adapter may become warm to hot while in use. Do not cover the adapter and keep it away from your body while it is connected to a power source. IMPORTANT! Use only the bundled power adapter to charge the battery pack and supply power to your Notebook PC.
LED Color Table Color Status Solid White The Notebook PC’s PC dock or touch screen panel is plugged to a power source, charging its battery, and the battery power is between 95% and 100%. Solid Orange • The Notebook PC’s PC dock is plugged to a power source, charging its battery, and the battery power is less than 95%. • The touch screen panel is connected to the PC dock, charging its battery, and the touch screen panel’s battery power is less than 30%.
Right Side The following hardware features located on your touch screen panel can be used while working on your Notebook PC. These features also work when the touch screen panel is used as a tablet device. Audio speakers This touch screen panel uses SonicMaster technology to provide hi-fi sound quality, with richer bass sounds, straight from the built-in audio speakers.
Front Side The following hardware features located on your touch screen panel can be used while working on your Notebook PC. These features also work when the touch screen panel is used as a tablet device. Power button Press the power button to turn your touch screen panel on or off. You can also use the power button to put your Notebook PC to sleep or hibernate mode and wake it up from sleep or hibernate mode.

Getting started Dock the touch screen panel on the PC dock.
Charge your Notebook PC. Connect both your touch screen panel and PC dock to a power source using the following steps: A. Plug the AC power adapter into a 100V~240V power source. B. Connect the DC power connector into your touch screen panel’s power (DC) input. C. Connect the USB to micro USB cable to your touch screen panel and PC dock. Charge the Notebook PC for 3 hours before using it in battery mode for the first time.
IMPORTANT! • Locate the input/output rating label on your Notebook PC and ensure that it matches the input/output rating information on your power adapter. Some Notebook PC models may have multiple rating output currents based on the available SKU. • Ensure that your Notebook PC is connected to the power adapter before turning it on for the first time. We strongly recommend that you use a grounded wall socket while using your Notebook PC on power adapter mode.
WARNING! Read the following precautions for your Notebook PC’s battery. • Only ASUS-authorized technicians should remove the battery inside the device. • The battery used in this device may present a risk of fire or chemical burn if removed or disassembled. • Follow the warning labels for your personal safety. • Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type. • Do not dispose of in fire. • Never attempt to short-circuit your Notebook PC’s battery.
Turn on your Notebook PC. A. Press the power button on your touch screen panel. B. Move your PC dock’s power switch to the left.
Gestures for the touch screen panel and touchpad Gestures allow you to launch programs and access the settings of your Notebook PC. Refer to the following illustrations when using hand gestures on your touch screen panel and touchpad. Using the touch screen panel Left edge swipe Right edge swipe Swipe from the left edge of the screen to shuffle your running apps. Swipe from the right edge of the screen to launch the Charms bar.
Zoom out Zoom in Bring together your two fingers on the touch panel. Spread apart your two fingers on the touch panel. Top edge swipe Finger slide • In the Start screen, swipe from the top edge of the screen to view the All Apps bar. Slide your finger to scroll up and down and slide your finger to pan the screen left or right. • In a running app, swipe from the top edge of the screen to view its menu.
Using the touchpad Moving the pointer You can tap or click anywhere on the touchpad to activate its pointer, then slide your finger on the touchpad to move the pointer onscreen.
One-finger gestures Tap/Double tap • In the Start screen, tap an app to launch it. • In Desktop mode, double-tap an application to launch it. Drag and drop Double-tap an item, then slide the same finger without lifting it off the touchpad. To drop the item to its new location, lift your finger from the touchpad.
Left-click Right-click • In the Start screen, click an app to launch it. • • In Desktop mode, doubleclick an application to launch it. In the Start screen, click an app to select it and launch the settings bar. You can also press this button to launch the All Apps bar. • In Desktop mode, use this button to open the rightclick menu. NOTE: The areas inside the dotted line represent the locations of the left mouse button and the right mouse button on the touchpad.
Top edge swipe • In the Start screen, swipe from the top edge to launch the All Apps bar. • In a running app, swipe from the top edge to view its menu. Left edge swipe Right edge swipe Swipe from the left edge to shuffle Swipe the right edge to launch your running apps. the Charms bar.
Two-finger gestures Tap Rotate Tap two fingers on the touchpad to simulate the right-click function. To rotate an image, place two fingers on the touchpad then turn one finger clockwise or counterclockwise while the other stays still. Two-finger scroll (up/down) Two-finger scroll (left/right) Slide two fingers to scroll up or down. Slide two fingers to scroll left or right.

Using the keyboard Function keys The function keys on your Notebook PC’s keyboard can trigger the following commands: Puts the Notebook PC into Sleep mode Turns Airplane mode on or off NOTE: When enabled, the Airplane mode disables all wireless connectivity. Decreases display brightness Increases display brightness Turns the display panel off Activates the second screen NOTE: Ensure that the second display is connected to your Notebook PC.
Turns the speaker volume down Turns the speaker volume up Function keys for apps Your Notebook PC also comes with a special set of function keys that can be used to launch some featured apps. Toggles the ASUS Splendid Video Enhancement Technology app to switch between these display color enhancement modes: Gamma Correction, Vivid Mode, Theater Mode, Soft Mode, My Profile, and Normal.
Windows®8 keys There are two special Windows® keys on your Notebook PC’s keyboard used as below: Press this key to go back to the Start screen. If you are already in the Start screen, press this key to go back to the last app you opened. Press this key to simulate the right-click functions. Multimedia control keys* The multimedia control keys allow you to control multimedia files, such as audios and videos, when played in your Notebook PC.
Numeric keypad on keyboard* This Notebook PC comes with 15 select keys that you can also use for numeric input. The numeric keypad on your Notebook PC are 15 select keys that are originally part of your standard QWERTY keyboard. Using the function key, these select keys can become a numeric keypad on your Notebook PC. Press to toggle between using these keys as number keys or as their original keyboard function.

Starting for the first time When you start your computer for the first time, a series of screens appear to guide you in configuring the basic settings of your Windows® 8 operating system. To start your Notebook PC for the first time: 1. Press the power button on your Notebook PC. Wait for a few minutes until the setup screen appears. 2. From the setup screen, pick a language to use on your Notebook PC. 3. Carefully read the License Terms. Tick I accept the terms for using Windows then click Accept. 4.
Windows® UI Windows® 8 comes with a tile-based user interface (UI) which allows you to organize and easily access Windows® apps from the Start screen. It also includes the following features that you can use while working on your Notebook PC. Start screen The Start screen appears after successfully signing in to your user account. It helps organize all the applications you need in just one place.
Hotspots Onscreen hotspots allow you to launch programs and access the settings of your Notebook PC. The functions in these hotspots can be activated using the touchpad.
Hotspot Action upper left corner Hover your mouse pointer on the upper left corner then tap on the recent app’s thumbnail to revert back to that running app. If you launched more than one app, slide down to show all running apps. lower left corner From a running app screen: Hover your mouse pointer on the lower left corner then tap on the Start screen’s thumbnail to go back to the Start screen. NOTE: You can also press the Windows key on your keyboard to go back to the Start screen.
Hotspot Action top side Hover your mouse pointer on the top side until it changes to a hand icon. Drag then drop the app to a new location. NOTE: This hotspot function only works on a running app or when you want to use the Snap feature. For more details, refer to the Snap feature under Working with Windows® apps. upper or lower right corner 52 Hover your mouse pointer on the upper or lower right corner to launch the Charms bar.
Working with Windows® apps Use your Notebook PC’s touchscreen, touchpad, or keyboard to launch, customize, and close apps. Launching apps Tap an app to launch it. Position your mouse pointer over the app then left-click or tap once to launch it. Press twice then use the arrow keys to browse through the apps. Press to launch an app.
Resizing apps 1. Swipe down the app tile to select and launch the settings bar. 2. Tap to reduce or to enlarge the app tile. Right-click on the app to activate its settings bar then tap or . Unpinning apps 1. Swipe down the app tile to select and launch the settings bar. 2. Tap to unpin an app. Right-click on the app to activate the settings bar then tap 54 .
Closing apps Tap and hold the top side of the running app then drag it down to the bottom of the screen to close it. 1. Move your mouse pointer on the top side of the launched app then wait for the pointer to change to a hand icon. 2. Drag then drop the app to the bottom of the screen to close it. Accessing the Apps screen Aside from the apps already pinned on your Start screen, you can also open other applications through the Apps screen.
Launching the Apps screen Launch the Apps screen using your Notebook PC's touch screen panel, touchpad, or keyboard. 1. Swipe from the top or bottom edge of the screen to launch the All Apps bar. 2. Pinning more apps on the Start screen You can pin more apps on the Start screen using your touch screen panel or touchpad. 1. In the Apps screen, swipe down the app to select and launch the settings bar. 2. Tap to pin the selected app on the Start screen. 58 1. Charms bar The charms bar is a toolbar that can be triggered on the right side of your screen. It consists of several charms that allow you to share applications and provide quick access for customizing the settings of your Notebook PC.
Launching the charms bar NOTE: When called out, the charms bar initially appears as a set of white icons. The image above shows how the charms bar looks like once activated. Use your Notebook PC’s touch screen panel, touchpad, or keyboard to launch the charms bar. Swipe from the right edge of the screen to launch the charms bar. Move your mouse pointer on the upper or lower right corner of the screen. Press 60 .
Inside the charms bar Search This charm allows you to look for files, applications, or programs in your Notebook PC. Share This charm allows you to share applications via social networking sites or email. Start This charm reverts the display back to the Start screen. From the Start screen, you can also use this to revert back to a recently opened app. Devices This charm allows you to access and share files with the devices attached to your Notebook PC such as an external display or printer.
Snap feature The Snap feature displays two apps side-by-side, allowing you to work or switch between apps. IMPORTANT! Ensure that your Notebook PC’s screen resolution is set to 1366 x 768 pixels or higher before using the Snap feature.
Using Snap Use your Notebook PC’s touch screen panel, touchpad or keyboard to activate and use Snap. 1. Launch the app you wish to snap. 2. Tap and hold the app’s topmost part then drag it to the left or right side of the screen until the snap bar appears. 3. Launch another app. 1. Launch the app you wish to snap. 2. Hover the mouse point on the top side of your screen. 3. Once the pointer changes to a hand icon, drag then drop the app to the left or right side of the display panel. 4.

Connecting to wireless networks Wi-Fi Access emails, surf the Internet, and share applications via social networking sites using your Notebook PC’s Wi-Fi connection. IMPORTANT! The Airplane mode disables this feature. Ensure that Airplane mode is turned off before enabling the Wi-Fi connection of your Notebook PC. Enabling Wi-Fi Activate Wi-Fi in your Notebook PC using the following steps on your touch screen panel or touchpad. 1. Launch the Charms bar. 2. Tap/click 3.
4. Tap/click Connect to start the network connection. NOTE: You may be prompted to enter a security key to activate the Wi-Fi connection. or 5. If you want to enable sharing between your Notebook PC and other wireless-enabled systems, tap Yes, turn on sharing and connect to devices. Tap*/click No, don't turn on sharing or connect to devices if you do not want to enable the sharing function.
Bluetooth Use Bluetooth to facilitate wireless data transfers with other Bluetoothenabled devices. IMPORTANT! The Airplane mode disables this feature. Ensure that Airplane mode is turned off before enabling the Bluetooth connection of your Notebook PC. Pairing with other Bluetooth-enabled devices You need to pair your Notebook PC with other Bluetooth-enabled devices to enable data transfers. To do this, use your touch screen panel or touchpad as follows: 1. Launch the Charms bar. 2.
4. or Select a device from the list. Compare the passcode on your Notebook PC with the passcode sent to your chosen device. If they are the same, tap/click Yes to successfully pair your Notebook PC with the device. NOTE: For some bluetooth-enabled devices, you may be prompted to key in the passcode of your Notebook PC.
Airplane mode The Airplane mode disables wireless communication, allowing you to use your Notebook PC safely while in-flight. Turning Airplane mode on 1. Launch the Charms bar. 2. Tap/click 3. Connecting to wired networks You can also connect to wired networks, such as local area networks and broadband Internet connection, using your Notebook PC’s LAN port. NOTE: Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for details or your network administrator for assistance in setting up your Internet connection. To configure your settings, refer to the following procedures.
5. Click Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) then tap Properties. 6. Click Obtain an IP address automatically then tap OK. NOTE: Proceed to the next steps if you are using PPPoE connection. 7. Return to the Network and Sharing Center window then tap Set up a new connection or network. 8. Select Connect to the Internet then tap Next. 9. Click Broadband (PPPoE). 10. Type your User name, Password, and Connection name then tap Connect. 11. Click Close to finish the configuration. 12.
Configuring a static IP network connection 1. Repeat steps 1 to 5 under Configuring a dynamic IP/PPPoE network connection. 2 Tap Use the following IP address. 3. Type the IP address, Subnet mask and Default gateway from your service provider. 4. If needed, you can also type the preferred DNS server address and alternate DNS server address then tap OK.
Turning your Notebook PC off You can turn off your Notebook PC by doing either of the following procedures: • Tap/click tap/click or from the Charms bar then > Shut down to do a normal shutdown. • From the log-in screen, tap/click > Shut down. • You can also shut down your Notebook PC using Desktop mode. To do this, launch the desktop then press alt + f4 to launch the Shut Down window. Select Shut Down from the drop-down list then select OK.

The Power-on Self Test (POST) The Power-on Self Test (POST) is a series of software-controlled diagnostic tests that run when you turn on or restart your Notebook PC. The software that controls the POST is installed as a permanent part of the Notebook PC’s architecture. Using POST to access BIOS and Troubleshoot During POST, you can access the BIOS settings or run troubleshooting options using the function keys of your Notebook PC. You may refer to the following information for more details.
Accessing BIOS 1. If you are using both devices as a Notebook PC, restart your system then press 2. during POST. If you are using your tablet as a mobile device, restart your system then press the volume down button during POST. BIOS Settings NOTE: The BIOS screens in this section are for reference only. Security This menu allows you to set up the administrator and user password of your Notebook PC. It also allows you to control the access to your Notebook PC’s hard disk drive, input/output (I/O) interface, and USB interface. NOTE: Main • If you install a User Password, you will be prompted to input this before entering your Notebook PC's operating system. • If you install an Administrator Password, you will be prompted to input this before entering BIOS.
To set the password: 1. On the Security screen, select Administrator Password or User Password. 2. Type in a password then press 3. Re-type to confirm the password then press . . To update the BIOS: 1. Verify the Notebook PC’s exact model then download the latest BIOS file for your model from the ASUS website. 2. Save a copy of the downloaded BIOS file to a flash disk drive. 3. Connect your flash disk drive to your Notebook PC. 4. Restart your Notebook PC then press 5. during POST.
