1 Knowing BIOS The new ASUS UEFI BIOS is a Unified Extensible Interface that complies with UEFI architecture, offering a user-friendly interface that goes beyond the traditional keyboardonly BIOS controls to enable a more flexible and convenient mouse input. You can easily navigate the new UEFI BIOS with the same smoothness as your operating system. The term “BIOS” in this user manual refers to “UEFI BIOS” unless otherwise specified.
2 BIOS Setup program Use the BIOS Setup to update the BIOS or configure its parameters. The BIOS screens include navigation keys and brief onscreen help to guide you in using the BIOS Setup program. Entering BIOS at startup To enter BIOS Setup at startup, press or during the Power-On Self Test (POST). If you do not press or , POST continues with its routines. Entering BIOS Setup after POST To enter BIOS Setup after POST: • Press ++ simultaneously.
2.1 EZ Mode The EZ Mode provides you an overview of the basic system information, and allows you to select the display language, system performance, mode and boot device priority. To access the Advanced Mode, click Advanced Mode(F7) or press the hotkey for the advanced BIOS settings. The default screen for entering the BIOS Setup program can be changed. Refer to the Setup Mode item in the 8.3 Boot Configuration section for details.
2.2 Advanced Mode The Advanced Mode provides advanced options for experienced end-users to configure the BIOS settings. The figure below shows an example of the Advanced Mode. Refer to the following sections for the detailed configurations. To switch from EZ Mode to Advanced Mode, click Advanced Mode(F7) or press the hotkey.
Menu bar The menu bar on top of the screen has the following main items: My Favorites For saving the frequently-used system settings and configuration. Main For changing the basic system configuration Ai Tweaker For changing the overclocking settings Advanced For changing the advanced system settings Monitor For displaying the system temperature, power status, and changing the fan settings.
AURA(F4) This button allows you to turn the RGB LED lighting or functional LED on or off. [All On] All LEDs (Aura or Functional) will be enabled. [Stealth Mode] All LEDs (Aura and Functional) will be disabled. [Aura Only] Aura LEDs will be enabled and functional LEDs will be disabled. [Aura Off] Aura LEDs will be disabled, however functional LEDs will still be enabled. ReSize BAR This button allows you to enable or disable the Re-Size BAR Support. [OFF] Re-Size BAR Support will be disabled.
3 Q-Fan Control The Q-Fan Control allows you to set a fan profile or manually configure the operating speed of your CPU and chassis fans. Click Qfan Control(F6) or press the hotkey for the Q-Fan settings.
4 My Favorites menu My Favorites is your personal space where you can easily save and access your favorite BIOS items. You can personalize this screen by adding or removing items. Adding items to My Favorites To add BIOS items: 1. Press on your keyboard or click MyFavorite(F3) from the BIOS screen to open Setup Tree Map screen. 2. On the Setup Tree Map screen, select the BIOS items that you want to save in the My Favorites screen.
5 Main menu The Main menu screen appears when you enter the Advanced Mode of the BIOS Setup program. The Main menu provides you an overview of the basic system information, and allows you to set the system language, date, time, and security settings. System Language Allows you to set the system language. System Date [Day MM/DD/YYYY] Allows you to set the system date. System Time [HH:MM:SS] Allows you to set the system time.
• If you have forgotten your BIOS password, erase the CMOS Real Time Clock (RTC) RAM to clear the BIOS password. See the user manual bundled with your motherboard for information on how to erase the RTC RAM via the Clear CMOS jumper. • The Administrator or User Password items on top of the screen show the default [Not Installed]. After you set a password, these items show [Installed].
6 Ai Tweaker menu The Ai Tweaker menu items allow you to configure overclocking-related items. Be cautious when changing the settings of the Ai Tweaker menu items. Incorrect field values can cause the system to malfunction. The configuration options for this section vary depending on the motherboard model,as well as the CPU and DIMM model you installed on the motherboard. Ai Overclock Tuner Allows you to select the CPU overclocking options to achieve the desired CPU internal frequency.
BCLK Spread Spectrum Allows you to enable the BCLK Spread Spectrum to reduce peak value of EMI emission, or disable it for a more accurate Base Clock. Configuration options: [Auto] [Enabled] [Disabled] ASUS MultiCore Enhancement Configuration options: [Auto - Lets BIOS Optimize] [Disabled - Enforce All limits] [Enabled - Remove All limits] [Auto - Lets BIOS Optimize] ASUS optimized core ratio Turbo and temperature settings at default processor speeds.
DRAM Frequency Allows you to select the DRAM operating frequency or select [Auto] to apply the optimized setting. Configuration options: [Auto] [DDR4-784MHz] – [DDR4-45907MHz] The configuration options vary with the BCLK Frequency setting. Selecting a very high memory frequency may cause the system to become unstable! If this happens, revert to the default setting. OC Tuner Allows you to select the mode of OC Tuner.

MRC Fast Boot Allows you to enable or disable fast path through the MRC.
DLLBwEn Allows you to set the DLLBwEn value. Select values 2 to 4 for best Memory overclocking. Configuration options: [Auto] [0] – [7] Legacy Mode Configuration options: [Disabled] [Enabled] SPD Write Disable Allows you to enable or disable setting SPD Write Disable. For security recommendations, SPD Write Disable bit must be set. Configuration options: [TRUE] [FALSE] DIGI+ VRM Changing the values in this menu may cause the system to become unstable! If this happens, revert to the default settings.
CPU VRM Switching Frequency This item allows you to set the VRM switching frequency. VRM switching frequency affects transient response and VRM component temperatures. Configure a higher switching frequency for better transient response at the expense of higher VRM temperatures. Active cooling of the VRM heatsink is recommended when running high CPU voltage and high load-line calibration values. Configuration options: [Auto] [Manual] DO NOT remove the VRM heatsink.
CPU Core/Cache Current Limit Max. Allows you to configure a current limit for frequency or power throttling. Setting this item to the maximum value can prevent throttling when overclocking. Configuration options: [Auto] [0.00] – [255.75] Long Duration Package Power Limit This item is an Intel parameter known as “power limit 1” and specified in Watts. The default value is defined by TDP of the processor.
The following items appear only when you set Overclocking TVB to [Enabled]. 1(~6)-Core Active Configuration options: [Auto] [Enabled] The following items appear only when you set 1(~6)-Core Active to [Enabled]. Temperature A Package passing this temparature threshold will engage the negative ratio offset specified in Negative Ratio Offset A. The unit of measurement for this item is Degree Celcius.
Ring PLL Voltage Allows you to configure the offset for the Ring PLL VCC Trim. Configuration options: [Auto] [0.900] – [1.845] System Agent PLL Voltage Allows you to configure the offset for the System Agent PLL VCC Trim. Configuration options: [Auto] [0.900] – [1.845] Memory Controller PLL Voltage Allows you to configure the offset for the Memory Controller PLL VCC Trim. Configuration options: [Auto] [0.900] – [1.845] CPU Standby Voltage Allows you to configure the voltage for the CPU Standby.
DRAM Voltage Allows you to configure the voltage for the DRAM. Use the <+> or <-> keys to adjust the value, or key in [Auto] and press the key to apply the optimized setting. Configuration options: [Auto] [1.00000] – [1.80000] CPU VCCIO Voltage Allows you to configure the voltage for the CPU VCCIO. Use the <+> or <-> keys to adjust the value, or key in [Auto] and press the key to apply the optimized setting. Configuration options: [Auto] [0.70000] – [1.
7 Advanced menu The Advanced menu items allow you to change the settings for the CPU and other system devices. Be cautious when changing the settings of the Advanced menu items. Incorrect field values can cause the system to malfunction. 7.1 Platform Misc Configuration The items in this menu show the Platform Misc configuration options. PCI Express Native Power Management Select [Enabled] to perform Active State Power Management (ASPM) operations in OS for enhanced PCI Express power saving.
The following item appears only when you set PCI Express Native Power Management to [Enabled]. Native ASPM Configuration options: [Auto] [Enabled] [Disabled] [Enabled]: OS Controlled ASPM. [Disabled]: BIOS Controlled ASPM. PCH - PCI Express DMI Link ASPM Control Allows you to set the ASPM level of the DMI link. Configuration options: [Disabled] [L0s] [L1] [L0sL1] [Auto] ASPM Allows you to set the ASPM level.
PCI Express Clock Gating Allows you to enable or disable the PCI Express Clock Gating for each root port. Configuration options: [Disabled] [Enabled] 7.2 CPU Configuration This menu displays the CPU-related information that the BIOS detects automatically and the items in this menu allow you to configure the CPU-related settings. The items in this menu may vary based on the CPU installed.
Intel (VMX) Virtualization Technology Allows you to enable or disable a VMM to utilize the additional hardware capacities provided by Vanderpool Technology. Configuration options: [Disabled] [Enabled] Active Processor Cores Allows you to select the number of CPU cores to activate in each processor package.
7.3 System Agent (SA) Configuration The items in this menu show the System Agent (SA) configuration options. VT-d Allows you to enable or disable VT-d function on MCH. Configuration options: [Enabled] [Disabled] The following item is accessible only when you set VT-d to [Enabled]. Control Iommu Pre-boot Behavior Allows you to enable or disable Input/Output Memory Management Unit (IOMMU) in Pre-boot environment. This requires that DMAR table is installed in DXE and VTD_ INFO_PPI is installed in PEI.
7.4 PCH Configuration The items in this menu allow you to set the PCH parameters. PCI Express Configuration Allows you to configure the PCI Express Configuration settings. PCIe Speed Allows you to set the PCIe speed. Configuration options: [Auto] [Gen1] [Gen2] [Gen3] 7.5 PCH Storage Configuration The items in this menu show the PCH Storage Configuration options. While entering Setup, the BIOS automatically detects the presence of SATA devices.
SMART Self Test The SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) is a monitoring system that shows a warning message during POST (Power-on Self Test) when any error occurs in the hard disks. Configuration options: [On] [Off] SATA6G_1(~6)(Gray) Allows you to change the name of the SATA port. Press and a popup window appears. Enter a new name, then press or click the Ok button to confirm the change. SATA6G_1(~6)(Gray) Allows you to enable or disable the SATA port.
7.7 Thunderbolt(TM) Configuration The items in this menu show the ThunderboltTM Configuration options. Discrete Thunderbolt(TM) Support Allows you to enable or disable Discrete ThunderboltTM Support. Configuration options: [Disabled] [Enabled] • The following items appear when you set Discrete Thunderbolt(TM) Support to [Enabled]. • Please set Control Iommu Pre-boot Behavior in System Agent (SA) Configuration menu to [Enable IOMMU during boot] to support DMA Protection feature.
GPIO3 Force Pwr Allows you to enable or disable GPIO3. Configuration options: [On] [Off] Wait time in ms after applying Force Pwr Allows you to set the wait time specified in milli second after Force Pwr is asserted before access the TBT controller. Configuration options: [1] – [5000] GPIO filter GPIO filter is needed to avoid electrical noise on PCH GPIOs during hotplug of 12V USB devices.
7.8 PCI Subsystem Settings The items in this menu allow you to set PCI, PCI-X, and PCI Express settings. Above 4G Decoding Allows you to enable or disable 64-bit capable devices to be decoded in Above 4G Address Space. This requires that the system supports 64-bit PCI Decoding. Configuration options: [Enabled] [Disabled] • Above 4G Decoding can only be enabled under 64-bit operating system. • The following item appears only when you set Above 4G Decoding to [Enabled].
7.9 USB Configuration The items in this menu display and allow you to change the USB-related features. Legacy USB Support Configuration options: [Enabled] [Disabled] [Auto] [Enabled] Enables the Legacy USB support. [Disabled] USB devices are available only for EFI applications. [Auto] Your system automatically detects the presence of USB devices at startup. If any USB devices are detected, the Legacy USB support is enabled. XHCI Hand-off This is a workaround for OSes without XHCI hand-off support.
7.10 Network Stack Configuration The items in this menu allow you to enable or disable the UEFI network stack. Network Stack Allows you to enable or disable the UEFI network stack. Configuration options: [Disabled] [Enabled] The following items appear only when you set Network Stack to [Enabled]. IPv4 PXE Support Allows you to enable or disable the IPv4 PXE Boot Support. If this item is set to [Disabled], IPv4 PXE boot option will not be created.
7.12 Onboard Devices Configuration The items in this menu allow you to switch between PCIe Lanes and configure onboard devices. The items in this menu may vary by motherboard models. PCIe Bandwidth Bifurcation Configuration Configuration options: [Auto] [X8/X8] [PCIe RAID mode] [Auto] Runs full PCIe X16 mode. [X8/X8] PCIEX16_1 runs X8/X8 mode. [PCIe RAID mode] Up to three SSDs installed onto the Hyper M.2 X16 series card can be detected.
USB power delivery in Soft Off state (S5) Allows you to disable USB power when your PC is in the S5 state. Configuration options: [Disabled] [Enabled] Connectivity mode (Wi-Fi & Bluetooth) Allows you to enable or disable the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity module. Configuration options: [Disabled] [Enabled] LED lighting Allows you to configure the RGB LED lighting effect.
Serial Port Allows you to enable or disable serial port. Configuration options: [On] [Off] The following item appears only when you set Serial Port to [On]. Change Settings Allows you to select an optimal settings for Super IO device. Configuration options: [IO=3F8h; IRQ=4] [IO=2F8h; IRQ=3] [IO=3E8h; IRQ=4] [IO=2E8h; IRQ=3] 7.13 APM Configuration The items in this menu allow you to adjust the Advanced Power Management (APM) settings.
Power On By PCI-E Allows you to enable or disable the wake-on-LAN function of the onboard LAN controller or other installed PCI-E LAN cards. Configuration options: [Disabled] [Enabled] Power On By RTC Allows you to enable or disable Real-Time Clock (RTC) to generate a wake event and configure the RTC alarm date.
8 Monitor menu The Monitor menu displays the system temperature/power status, and allows you to change the fan settings. 8.1 Temperature Monitor CPU Temperature / CPU Package Temperature / MotherBoard Temperature / VRM Temperature / Chipset Temperature [xxx°C/xxx°F] The onboard hardware monitor automatically detects and displays the CPU, CPU package, motherboard, VRM, and chipset temperatures. Select [Ignore] if you do not wish to display the detected temperatures.
8.2 Fan Speed Monitor CPU Fan Speed / CPU Optional Fan Speed / Chassis Fan 1(~3) Speed / AIO PUMP Speed [xxxx RPM] The onboard hardware monitor automatically detects and displays the CPU fan, CPU optional fan, chassis fan 1~3, and AIO pump fan speeds in rotations per minute (RPM). If the fan is not connected to the motherboard, the field shows [N/A]. Select [Ignore] if you do not wish to display the detected speed. 8.3 Voltage Monitor CPU Core Voltage / 12V Voltage / 5V Voltage / 3.
8.4 Q-Fan Configuration Q-fan Tuning Select this item and press , a popup window appears. Click the Ok button to allow the system to automatically detect the lowest speed and configure the minimum duty cycle for each fan. The tuning progress may take 2 to 5 minutes, DO NOT shut down or reset your system during this process. CPU Q-Fan Control Allows you to set the CPU Q-Fan control mode.
CPU Fan Speed Lower Limit Allows you to set the lower speed limit for CPU fan. A warning message will appear when the limit is reached. When set to [Ignore], no future warning message will appear. Configuration options: [Ignore] [200 RPM] [300 RPM] [400 RPM] [500 RPM] [600 RPM] • The following items appear only when you set the CPU Fan Profile to [Manual]. • Use the <+> and <-> keys to adjust the value or directly key in a desired value within the valid range for each of the items below.
Chassis Fan 1(~3) Q-Fan Control These items allow you to set the control modes for chassis fans. Configuration options: [Auto Detect] [DC Mode] [PWM Mode] [Auto Detect] Detects the type of chassis fan installed and automatically switches the control modes. [DC Mode] Enables the Q-Fan control in DC mode for 3-pin fan. [PWM Mode] Enables the Q-Fan control in PWM mode for 4-pin fan. Chassis Fan 1(~3) Profile Allow you to set the appropriate performance levels for chassis fans.
Chassis Fan 1(~3) Max. Duty Cycle (%) Allow you to set the maximum fan duty cycle and the source temperature upper limit. When the source temperature reaches the upper limit, chassis fans will operate at the maximum duty cycle. Configuration options: [0] – [100] Chassis Fan 1(~3) Middle Temperature Allow you to set the middle temperature. Chassis fans will operate at the middle duty cycle when the source temperature is higher than the limit.
AIO PUMP Step Up/Down Allows you to set the value of AIO PUMP fan step up/down. Configuration options: [0 sec] [12 sec] [25 sec] [51 sec] [76 sec] [102 sec] [127 sec] [153 sec] [178 sec] [204 sec] AIO PUMP Speed Low Limit Allows you to set the lower speed limit for AIO PUMP fan. A warning message will appear when the limit is reached. When set to [Ignore], no future warning message will appear.
9 Boot menu The Boot menu items allow you to change the system boot options. 9.1 CSM (Compatibility Support Module) The items in this menu allow you to configure the CSM (Compatibility Support Module) items to fully support the various VGA, bootable devices and add-on devices for better compatibility. Launch CSM Configuration options: [Disabled] [Enabled] [Enabled] For better compatibility, enable the CSM to fully support the nonUEFI driver add-on devices or the Windows® UEFI mode.
The following items appear only when you set [Launch CSM] to [Enabled]. Boot Device Control Allow you to select the devices boot-up mode by the devices specification. Devices with the selected mode will appear in the boot priority list. Configuration options: [UEFI and Legacy OPROM] [Legacy OPROM only] [UEFI only] Boot from Network Devices Allow you to select the type of the onboard LAN controllers and installed LAN cards. Network devices will run the selected type during the system boot.
Secure Boot Mode Allows you to select the Secure Boot mode. In Cutom mode, Secure Boot Policy variables can be configured by a physically present user without full authentication. Configuration options: [Standard] [Custom] The following item is accessible only when you set [Secure Boot Mode] to [Custom]. Key Management Allows you to manage the secure boot keys. The following item appears only when all secure boot keys have been delected.
KEK Management The Key Exchange Keys (KEK) manages the Signature database (db) and Forbidden Signature database (dbx). Key Exchange Keys (KEK) refers to Microsoft Secure Boot Key-Enrollment Key (KEK). Save To File Allows you to save the KEK to a target file system device. Set New Key A popup window will appear if you press . Select [Yes] if you wish to load factory default KEK, or [No] to load KEK from a target file system device. Append Key A popup window will appear if you press .
Save To File Allows you to save the dbx to a target file system device. Set New Key A popup window will appear if you press . Select [Yes] if you wish to load factory default dbx, or [No] to load dbx from a target file system device. Append Key A popup window will appear if you press . Select [Yes] if you wish to load factory default db, or [No] to load additional dbx from a target file system device for an additional db and dbx loaded management.
The following item appears only when you set Fast Boot to [Enabled]. Next Boot after AC Power Loss Configuration options: [Normal Boot] [Fast Boot] [Normal Boot] Returns to normal boot on the next boot after an AC power loss. [Fast Boot] Accelerates the boot speed on the next boot after an AC power loss. Boot Logo Display Configuration options: [Auto] [Full Screen] [Disabled] [Auto] Automatically adjusts the boot logo size for Windows® requirements. [Full Screen] Maximizes the boot logo size.
Setup Mode Allows you to select the default setup mode of the BIOS after POST. Configuration options: [Advanced Mode] [EZ Mode] Boot Sector (MBR/GPT) Recovery Policy Allows you to select the Boot Sector Policy. Configuration options: [Auto Recovery] [Local User Control] [Auto Recovery] Follows UEFI Rule. [Local User Control] Allows you to enter setup page and select Boot Sector (MBR/ GPT) Recovery Policy to recovery MBR/GPT on the next boot time.
10 Tool menu The Tool menu items allow you to configure options for special functions. Select an item then press to display the submenu. ASUS EZ Flash 3 Utility Allows you to update your BIOS. For more details, refer to the section 12.2 ASUS EZ Flash 3. • DO NOT shut down or reset the system while updating the BIOS to prevent system boot failure! • We recommend that you update the BIOS file only coming from the same memory/ CPU configuration and BIOS version.
ASUS Secure Erase SSD speed performance may degrade over time due to accumulated files and frequent datawriting. Secure Erase completely cleans your SSD and restores it to factory default settings. Ensure that you run Secure Erase on a compatible SSD. Running Secure Erase on an incompatible SSD will render the SSD totally unusable. • The time to erase the contents of your SSD may take a while depending on its size. Do not turn off the system during the process.
Profile Name Allows you to input a profile name for the current BIOS settings. Save to Profile Allows you to save the current BIOS settings to profile. Key in a profile number from 1 to 8 to save the settings to the corresponding profile, press , then select [Yes]. Load/Save Profile from/to USB Drive. Allows you to load BIOS settings from or save the current BIOS settings to a USB drive installed on your motherboard.
11 Exit menu The Exit menu items allow you to load the optimal default values for the BIOS items, and save or discard your changes to the BIOS items. You can access the EZ Mode from the Exit menu. Load Optimized Defaults This option allows you to load the default values for all the setup options. When you select this option or if you press , a confirmation window appears. Select [Ok] to load the default values.
12 Updating BIOS The ASUS website publishes the latest BIOS versions to provide enhancements on system stability, compatibility,and performance. However, BIOS updating is potentially risky. If there is no problem using the current version of BIOS, DO NOT manually update the BIOS. Inappropriate BIOS updating may result to system’s failure to boot. Carefully follow the instructions in this chapter to update your BIOS when necessary. Visit http://www.asus.
