Memory configurations
Youmayinstall2GB,4GB,8GBand16GBunbufferedandnon-ECCDDR4DIMMsinto
theDIMMsockets.
• YoumayinstallvaryingmemorysizesinChannelAandChannelB.Thesystem
mapsthetotalsizeofthelower-sizedchannelforthedual-channelconguration.Any
excessmemoryfromthehigher-sizedchannelisthenmappedforsingle-channel
operation.
• Duetothememoryaddresslimitationon32-bitWindows
®
OS,whenyouinstall4GB
ormorememoryonthemotherboard,theactualusablememoryfortheOScanbe
about3GBorless.Foreffectiveuseofmemory,werecommendthatyoudoanyof
thefollowing:
a) Useamaximumof3GBsystemmemoryifyouareusinga32-bitWindows
®
OS.
b) Installa64-bitWindows
®
OSwhenyouwanttoinstall4GBormoreonthe
motherboard.

• ThismotherboarddoesnotsupportDIMMsmadeupof512Mb(64MB)chipsorless
(MemorychipcapacitycountsinMegabit,8Megabit/Mb=1Megabyte/MB).
• ThedefaultmemoryoperationfrequencyisdependentonitsSerialPresenceDetect
(SPD),whichisthestandardwayofaccessinginformationfromamemorymodule.
Underthedefaultstate,somememorymodulesforoverclockingmayoperateata
lowerfrequencythanthevendor-markedvalue.
• Forsystemstability,useamoreefcientmemorycoolingsystemtosupportafull
memoryload(4DIMMs)oroverclockingcondition.
• AlwaysinstalltheDIMMSwiththesameCASLatency.Foranoptimumcompatibility,
werecommendthatyouinstallmemorymodulesofthesameversionordatacode
(D/C)fromthesamevendor.Checkwiththevendortogetthecorrectmemory
modules.
