This chapter lists the key components and optional accessories for the server system.
2.1 Upgrading CPU and CPU heatsink The ASUS RS160-E5 supports 1–2 Dual-core / Quad-core Intel® Xeon® 5400 / 5300 / 5200 / 5100 / 5000 series processor. 5 4 1 2 3 • • If you install only one CPU, install the CPU to the CPU2 socket only. The system will not boot and the CPU warning LED will light up if a single CPU is installed on the CPU1 socket. CPU1 We recommend to install CPUs with the same frequency.
2.2 Upgrading system memory The motherboard comes with six (6) Double Data Rate 2 (DDR2) Dual Inline Memory Modules (DIMM) sockets.

2.4 Installing ASUS PIKE 1064E/1078 RAID module The ASUS PIKE RAID module allows users to create RAID function from SAS hard disk drives connected to the SAS connectors on the motherboard. 2.5 Installing ASUS RAID card The ASUS RAID card allows users to create RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 from SAS hard disk drives connected to the SAS connectors on the motherboard.
2.6 Installing ASUS Server Management Board ASUS Server Management Board is an Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0-compliant board that allows users to monitor, control and manage a remote server from the local or central server in local area network (LAN). 1 30 - 45O 2 ASMB3-SOL PLUS (V3) • • • Monitor the running status of major components via LAN or Serial Port, such as CPU and memory utilization, storage capacity and networking transfer rate.

In addition, KVM function is based on BIOS-level access, therefore, even the server OS is down, the KVM module can still work to provide around-theclock remote monitor and diagnosis through GUI (Web-based Graphical User Interface).
