3. Expansion slots This motherboard supports one PCIe x16 graphics card, two PCIe x16 (supporting x4), and two PCIe x1 network cards, SCSI cards and other cards that comply with the PCI Express specification. 4. Fan headers The Fan headers allow you to connect fans to cool the system. GND FAN PWR FAN IN FAN PWM 5. Power connectors These Power connectors allow you to connect your motherboard to a power supply. The power supply plugs are designed to fit in only one orientation.
10. USB 2.0 headers The USB 2.0 headers allow you to connect USB modules for additional USB 2.0 ports. The USB 2.0 headers provide data transfer speeds of up to 480 Mb/s. DO NOT connect a 1394 cable to the USB connectors. Doing so will damage the motherboard! 11. Addressable Gen 2 headers The Addressable Gen 2 headers allow you to connect individually addressable RGB WS2812B LED strips or WS2812B based LED strips.
13. COM Port header COM The COM (Serial) Port header allows you to connect a COM port module. Connect the COM port module cable to this header, then install the module to a slot opening on the system chassis. PIN 1 DCD TXD GND RTS RI RXD DTR DSR CTS F_AUDIO 14. Front Panel Audio header PIN 1 The Front Panel Audio header is for a chassis-mounted front panel audio I/O module that supports HD Audio. Connect one end of the front panel audio I/O module cable to this header.
• Storage Device Activity LED header (HDD_LED) The 2-pin header allows you to connect the Storage Device Activity LED. The Storage Device Activity LED lights up or blinks when data is read from or written to the storage device or storage device add-on card. • System Warning Speaker header (SPEAKER) The 4-pin header allows you to connect the chassis-mounted system warning speaker. The speaker allows you to hear system beeps and warnings.

1.3 CPU installation • Ensure that you install the correct CPU designed for LGA1700 socket only. DO NOT install a CPU designed for LGA1155, LGA1156, LGA1151, and LGA1200 sockets on the LGA1700 socket. • The CPU fits in only one correct orientation. DO NOT force the CPU into the socket to prevent bending the connectors on the socket and damaging the CPU. • Ensure that all power cables are unplugged before installing the CPU.
1-10 Chapter 1: Product Introduction
1.4 DIMM installation The figure illustrates the location of the DDR5 DIMM sockets. DIMM_A DIMM_B A DDR5 memory module is notched differently from a DDR, DDR2, DDR3, or DDR4 module. DO NOT install a DDR, DDR2, DDR3, or DDR4 memory module to the DDR5 slot. Recommended memory configurations DIMM_A DIMM_A DIMM_B DIMM_B You may install Non-ECC DDR5 DIMMs into the DIMM sockets. • You may install varying memory sizes in the DIMM channels.
Installing a DIMM Removing a DIMM 1-12 Chapter 1: Product Introduction
1.5 M.2 module installation • Use a Phillips screwdriver when removing or installing the screws or screw stands mentioned in this section. • If the thermal pad on the M.2 heatsink becomes damaged, we recommend replacing it with a thermal pad with a thickness of 1.25mm. • Supported M.2 type varies per motherboard. 1. Loosen the screws from the M.2 heatsinks. 2. Lift and remove the heatsinks. 1 1 2 1 1 2 1 1 2 3. (optional) Install the bundled rubber for M.
OR remove the M.2 rubber. Only follow this step if installing a 2242 length M.2 module and the M.2 slot has an M.2 rubber pre-installed. 4. Install your M.2 module to the M.2 slot. The steps may differ between installing M.2 of different lengths. • For a length with a pre-installed non-removable M.2 Q-Latch A. Rotate and adjust the M.2 Q-latch so that the handle points away from the M.2 slot. • B. Install your M.2 module to the M.2 slot. C. Rotate the M.2 Q-Latch clockwise to secure the M.
5. Remove the plastic film from the thermal pads on the bottom of the heatsinks. If the thermal pad on the M.2 heatsink becomes damaged, we recommend replacing it with a thermal pad with a thickness of 1.25mm. 6. Replace the heatsinks. 7. Secure the heatsinks using the screws on the heatsinks.
1.6 Wi-Fi moving antenna installation Installing the ASUS Wi-Fi moving antenna Connect the bundled ASUS Wi-Fi moving antenna connector to the Wi-Fi ports at the back of the chassis. • Ensure that the ASUS Wi-Fi moving antenna is securely installed to the Wi-Fi ports. • Ensure that the antenna is at least 20 cm away from all persons. The illustration above is for reference only. The I/O port layout may vary with models, but the Wi-Fi moving antenna installation procedure is the same for all models.
Chapter 2: BIOS and RAID Support BIOS and RAID Support 2 For more details on BIOS and RAID configurations, please refer to Manual & Document under the Support tab of the product information site, or visit https://www.asus.com/support. 2.1 Knowing UEFI BIOS BIOS (Basic Input and Output System) stores system hardware settings such as storage device configuration, overclocking settings, advanced power management, and boot device configuration that are needed for system startup in the motherboard CMOS.
2.2 ASUS EZ Flash 3 The ASUS EZ Flash 3 feature allows you to update the BIOS without using an OS‑based utility. Ensure to load the BIOS default settings to ensure system compatibility and stability. Select the Load Optimized Defaults item under the Exit menu or press the hotkey. To update the BIOS: 2-2 • This function can support devices such as a USB flash disk with FAT 32/16 format and single partition only.
2.3 ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3 The ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3 utility is an auto recovery tool that allows you to restore the BIOS file when it fails or gets corrupted during the updating process. You can restore a corrupted BIOS file using a USB flash drive that contains the BIOS file. Recovering the BIOS 1. Download the latest BIOS version for this motherboard from https://www.asus.com/support/. 2. Rename the file using one of the following methods: • Launch the BIOSRenamer.
2.4 RAID configurations The motherboard supports RAID configurations. RAID definitions RAID 0 (Data striping) optimizes two identical hard disk drives to read and write data in parallel, interleaved stacks. Two hard disks perform the same work as a single drive but at a sustained data transfer rate, double that of a single disk alone, thus improving data access and storage. Use of two new identical hard disk drives is required for this setup.
