Safety precautions Using your ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock This ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock should only be used in environments with ambient temperatures between 5°C (41°F) and 35°C (95°F). Refer to the rating label on the bottom of your ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock and ensure that your power adapter complies with this rating. Do not leave your ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock on your lap or near any part of your body to prevent discomfort or injury from heat exposure.
Caring for your ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock Disconnect the AC power and remove the battery pack (if applicable) before cleaning your ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock. Use a clean cellulose sponge or chamois cloth dampened with a solution of nonabrasive detergent and a few drops of warm water. Remove any extra moisture from your ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock using a dry cloth. Do not use strong solvents such as thinners, benzene, or other chemicals on or near your ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock.
Proper disposal Do not throw your ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock in municipal waste. This product has been designed to enable proper reuse of parts and recycling. The symbol of the crossed out wheeled bin indicates that the product (electrical, electronic equipment and mercury-containing button cell battery) should not be placed in municipal waste. Check local regulations for disposal of electronic products. Do not throw the battery in municipal waste.

ASUS Tablet The ASUS Tablet allows you to perform touch screen gestures while working on Windows® 8.1. Front View Ambient light sensor The ambient light sensor detects the amount of ambient light in your environment. It allows the system to automatically adjust the brightness of the display depending on the ambient light condition. Front camera The built-in 2-megapixel front camera allows you to take pictures or record videos using your ASUS Tablet.
Touch screen panel This high-definition touch screen panel provides excellent viewing features for photos, videos, and other multimedia files on your ASUS Tablet. It also allows you to operate your ASUS Tablet using touch gestures. NOTE: To know more about using touch screen gestures when operating your ASUS Tablet, refer to the Gestures for the touch screen panel section in this manual. Back view Rear camera The built-in rear camera allows you to take pictures or record videos using your ASUS Tablet.
Top View Volume button The volume button allows you to increase or decrease the volume level of your ASUS Tablet. Power button Press the power button to turn your ASUS Tablet on, put it to sleep mode, and wake it up from sleep mode. In the event that your ASUS Tablet becomes unresponsive, press and hold the power button for about ten (10) seconds to force it to shut down. IMPORTANT! Forcing the system to restart may result to data loss. We strongly recommend that you back up your data regularly.
Two-color battery charge indicator The two-color LED provides a visual indication of the battery’s charge status. Refer to the following table for details: Color Status Solid White The ASUS Tablet is plugged to a power source and the battery power is between 95% and 100%. Solid Orange The ASUS Tablet is plugged to a power source, charging its battery, and the battery power is less than 95%. Blinking Orange The ASUS Tablet is running on battery mode and the battery power is less than 10%.
Left side Headphone output/microphone input combo jack port This port allows you to connect your tablet to amplified speakers or headphones. You can also use this port to connect your tablet to an external microphone. Audio speakers The built-in audio speakers allow you to hear audio straight from your tablet. Audio features are software controlled. MicroSD card slot This ASUS Tablet comes with a built-in memory card reader slot that supports microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC card formats.
Right side Audio speakers The built-in audio speakers allow you to hear audio straight from your tablet. Audio features are software controlled. Micro USB 2.0 port This micro USB (Universal Serial Bus) 2.0 port is compatible with USB 2.0 or USB 1.1 devices such as keyboards, pointing devices, flash disk drives, external HDDs, speakers, cameras and printers. You may also insert the bundled power adapter into this port to charge the battery pack and supply power to your ASUS Tablet.
ASUS Mobile Dock features NOTE: The keyboard's layout may vary per region or country. Top view ASUS Mobile Dock power switch / Bluetooth switch Move this swich to the right or left to turn on or turn off your ASUS Mobile Dock’s Bluetooth connectivity. Bluetooth indicator This indicator lights up when your ASUS Mobile Dock’s Bluetooth is enabled.

ASUS Mobile Dock hinge This hinge allows you to connect the tablet to the keyboard dock. It also holds the tablet in place as you adjust it to different viewing angles. Keyboard The keyboard provides full-sized QWERTY keys with a comfortable travel depth for typing. It also enables you to use the function keys, allows quick access to Windows®, and controls other multimedia functions. NOTE: The keyboard layout differs by model or region.
Left view Micro USB 2.0 port You may also insert the bundled power adapter into this port to charge the battery pack and supply power to your ASUS Tablet. WARNING! The adapter may become warm to hot while in use. Do not cover the adapter and keep it away from your body while it is connected to a power source. IMPORTANT! Use only the bundled power adapter to charge the battery pack and supply power to your ASUS Tablet.

Getting started ASUS Tablet Charging your ASUS Tablet A. Connect the micro USB cable to the power adapter. B. Plug the power adapter into a grounded power outlet. C. Plug the micro USB connector into your ASUS Tablet. NOTE: The power adapter may vary in appearance, depending on models and your region. Use only the bundled power adapter for charging.
Powering on your ASUS Tablet IMPORTANT! • Locate the input/output rating label on your ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock and ensure that it matches the input/output rating information on your power adapter. Some ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock models may have multiple rating output currents based on the available SKU. • Ensure that your ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock is connected to the power adapter before turning it on for the first time.
IMPORTANT! Power adapter information: • Input voltage: 100-240Vac • Input frequency: 50/60Hz • Rating output current: 2A • Rating output voltage: 5V NOTES: • Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type. • Dispose of used battery according to the instructions. Ensure to fully charge the battery before using your ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock for extended periods. Remember that the power adapter charges the battery as long as it is plugged into a power source.
The battery Your ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock is equipped with a high performance non-detachable Li-Ion battery. Observe the maintenance guidelines for a longer battery life. • Do not remove the non-detachable Li-on battery as this will void the warranty. • Avoid charging in extremely high or low temperature. The battery performs optimally in an ambient temperature of +5 °C to +35 °C. • Do not remove and replace the battery with a non-approved battery.
ASUS Mobile Dock Charging your ASUS Mobile Dock A. Connect the micro USB cable to the power adapter. B. Plug the power adapter into a grounded power outlet. C. Plug the micro USB connector into your ASUS Mobile Dock. Power on your ASUS Mobile Dock IMPORTANT! Enable the Bluetooth function on your display device to pair it with your ASUS Mobile Dock.
Using your ASUS Tablet with the ASUS Mobile Dock Refer to the following steps if you want to use both your ASUS Tablet and ASUS Mobile Dock as a Notebook PC. 1. Ensure that both devices are charged. 2. Dock the ASUS Tablet into the ASUS Mobile Dock as shown in the illustration below. 3. Turn on each device to enable automatic Bluetooth pairing.
Gestures for the touch screen panel Gestures allow you to launch programs and access the settings of your ASUS Tablet. Refer to the following illustrations when using hand gestures on your touch screen panel. NOTE: The following screenshots are for reference only. The touch screen panel’s appearance may vary depending on model. Using touch screen panel gestures The gestures allow you to launch programs and access the settings of your ASUS Tablet.
Top edge swipe Finger slide • In the Start screen, swipe from the top edge of the screen to view the Customize bar. Slide your finger to scroll up and down and slide your finger to pan the screen left or right. • In a running app, swipe from the top edge of the screen to view its menu. Zoom out Zoom in Bring together your two fingers on the touch panel. Spread apart your two fingers on the touch panel.
Tap/Double tap Tap/click and hold • Tap an app to launch it. • • On Desktop mode, doubletap an item to launch it. To move an app, tap and hold the app tile and drag it to a new location. • To close an app, tap and hold the top side of the running app and drag it down to the bottom of the screen to close it.
Swipe up Swipe down Swipe up from the Start screen to launch the Apps screen. Swipe down from the Apps screen to return to the Start screen.
Using the keyboard Function keys The function keys on your keyboard can trigger the following commands: Puts the ASUS Tablet into Sleep mode Decreases display brightness Increases display brightness Toggles the display mode NOTE: Ensure that the second display is connected to your ASUS Tablet.
Windows® 8.1 keys There are two special Windows® keys on your keyboard used as below: Press this key to go back to the Start screen. If you are already in the Start screen, press this key to go back to the last app you opened. Press this key to simulate the right-click functions.

Chapter 3: Working with Windows® 8.
Starting for the first time When you start your computer for the first time, a series of screens appear to guide you in configuring your Windows® 8.1 operating system. To start your ASUS Tablet for the first time: 1. Press the power button on your ASUS Tablet. Wait for a few minutes until the setup screen appears. 2. From the setup screen, pick your region and a language to use on your ASUS Tablet. 3. Carefully read the License Terms. Select I accept. 4.
Windows® UI Windows® 8.1 comes with a tile-based user interface (UI) which allows you to organize and easily access Windows® apps from the Start screen. It also includes the following features that you can use while working on your ASUS Tablet. Start screen The Start screen appears after successfully signing in to your user account. It helps organize all the applications you need in just one place. Windows® Apps These are apps pinned on the Start screen and displayed on tiled-format for easy access.
Hotspots Onscreen hotspots allow you to launch programs and access the settings of your ASUS Tablet. The functions in these hotspots can be activated using an external mouse/touchpad.
Hotspot Action upper left corner Hover your mouse pointer on the upper left corner then tap/click on the recent app’s thumbnail to revert back to that running app. If you launched more than one app, slide down to show all running apps. lower left corner From a running app screen: Hover your mouse pointer on the lower left corner then tap/click to go back to the Start screen. NOTE: You can also press the Windows key on your keyboard to go back to the Start screen.
Hotspot Action top side Hover your mouse pointer on the top side until it changes to a hand icon. Drag then drop the app to a new location. NOTE: This hotspot function only works on a running app or when you want to use the Snap feature. For more details, refer to the Snap feature under Working with Windows® apps. upper or lower right corner 44 Hover your mouse pointer on the upper or lower right corner to launch the Charms bar.
Start button Windows® 8.1 features the Start button which allows you to switch between the two most recent apps that you opened. The Start button may be accessed from the Start screen, while on Desktop mode, and on any app that is currently open onscreen. Start button on the Start screen NOTE: The actual color of your Start button varies depending on the display settings you chose for your Start screen.
Start button on Desktop mode Context menu The context menu appears as a box filled with quick access to some of the programs inside Windows® 8.1 when you right-click on the Start button. The context menu also includes the following shut down options for your ASUS Tablet: sign out, sleep, shut down, restart.
Customizing your Start screen Windows® 8.1 also enables you to customize your Start screen, allowing you to boot directly to the Desktop mode and customize the arrangement of your apps onscreen. To customize the settings of your Start screen: or 1. Launch the Desktop. 2. Right-click anywhere on the taskbar, except on the Start button, to launch the pop-up window. 3. Click Properties then select the Navigation tab to tick the Navigation and Start screen options you want to use. 4.
Working with Windows® apps Use your ASUS Tablet’s touch screen panel, external mouse/touchpad, or keyboard to launch, customize, and close apps. Launching apps Tap an app to launch it. Position your mouse pointer over the app then left-click or tap once to launch it. Press twice then use the arrow keys to browse through the apps. Press to launch an app.
Resizing apps Tap and hold the app to activate the Customize bar then tap and select an app tile size. Right-click on the app to activate the Customize bar, then tap/click and select an app tile size. Unpinning apps Tap and hold the app to activate the Customize bar, then tap to unpin an app. Right-click on the app to activate the Customize bar then tap/click .
Closing apps Tap and hold the top side of the running app then drag it down to the bottom of the screen to close it. 1. Move your mouse pointer on the top side of the launched app then wait for the pointer to change to a hand icon. 2. Drag then drop the app to the bottom of the screen to close it. From the running app’s screen, press 50 .
Accessing the Apps screen Aside from the apps already pinned on your Start screen, you can also open other applications through the Apps screen. NOTE: Actual apps shown onscreen may vary per model. The following screenshot is for reference only. Launching the Apps screen Launch the Apps screen using your ASUS Tablet's touch screen panel, external mouse/touchpad, or keyboard. Pinning more apps on the Start screen You can pin more apps on the Start screen using your touch screen panel or external mouse/touchpad. 1. Launch the All Apps screen. 2. Tap and hold an app you want to add on the start to activate the Customize bar. Once the Customize bar is launched, you may also tap other more apps to add on the Start screen. 3. Tap to pin the selected apps on the Start screen. 1. Launch the All Apps screen 2. Right-click on the apps that you want to add on the Start screen.
Charms bar The Charms bar is a toolbar that can be triggered on the right side of your screen. It consists of several tools that allow you to share applications and provide quick access for customizing the settings of your ASUS Tablet.
Launching the Charms bar NOTE: When called out, the Charms bar initially appears as a set of white icons. The image above shows how the Charms bar looks like once activated. Use your ASUS Tablet’s touch screen panel, external mouse/touchpad, or keyboard to launch the Charms bar. Swipe from the right edge of the screen to launch the charms bar. Move your mouse pointer on the upper or lower right corner of the screen.
Inside the Charms bar Search This charm allows you to look for files, applications, or programs in your ASUS Tablet. Share This charm allows you to share applications via social networking sites or email. Start This charm reverts the display back to the Start screen. From the Start screen, you can also use this to revert back to a recently opened app. Devices This charm allows you to access and share files with the devices attached to your ASUS Tablet such as an external display or printer.
Snap feature The Snap feature displays two apps side-by-side, allowing you to work or switch between apps. IMPORTANT! Ensure that your ASUS Tablet’s screen resolution is set to 1366 x 768 pixels or higher before using the Snap feature.
Using Snap Use your ASUS Tablet’s touch screen panel, external mouse/touchpad, or keyboard to activate and use Snap. 1. Launch the app you wish to snap. 2. Tap and hold the app’s topmost part then drag it to the left or right side of the screen until the snap bar appears. 3. Launch another app. 1. Launch the app you wish to snap. 2. Hover the mouse point on the top side of your screen. 3.

Connecting to wireless networks Wi-Fi Access emails, surf the Internet, and share applications via social networking sites using your ASUS Tablet’s Wi-Fi connection. IMPORTANT! The Airplane mode disables this feature. Ensure that Airplane mode is turned off before enabling the Wi-Fi connection of your ASUS Tablet. Enabling Wi-Fi Activate Wi-Fi in your ASUS Tablet using the following steps on your touch screen panel or external mouse/touchpad. 1. Launch the Charms bar. 2. Tap/click 3.
Bluetooth Use Bluetooth to facilitate wireless data transfers with other Bluetoothenabled devices. IMPORTANT! The Airplane mode disables this feature. Ensure that Airplane mode is turned off before enabling the Bluetooth connection of your ASUS Tablet. Pairing with other Bluetooth-enabled devices You need to pair your ASUS Tablet with other Bluetooth-enabled devices to enable data transfers. To do this, use your external mouse/ touchpad as follows: 1. Launch the Charms bar. 2. Tap/click 3.
Airplane mode The Airplane mode disables wireless communication, allowing you to use your ASUS Tablet safely while in-flight. Turning Airplane mode on or 1. Launch the Charms bar. 2. Tap/click 3. Turning your ASUS Tablet off You can turn off your ASUS Tablet by doing either of the following procedures: • or Tap/click from the Charms bar then tap/click > Shut down to do a normal shutdown. • From the log-in screen, tap/click > Shut down. • You can also shut down your ASUS Tablet using Desktop mode. To do this, launch the desktop then press alt + f4 to launch the Shut Down window. Select Shut Down from the drop-down list then select OK.
Windows® 8.1 lock screen The Windows® 8.1 lock screen appears when you wake your ASUS Tablet from sleep or hibernate mode. It also appears when you lock or unlock Windows® 8.1. The lock screen can be customized to regulate access to your operating system. You can change its background display and access some of your apps while your ASUS Tablet is still locked. To proceed from the lock screen or 64 1. Tap/click on the external mouse/touchpad or press any key on your ASUS Tablet's keyboard. 2.
Customizing your lock screen You can customize your lock screen to show your preferred photo, a photo slideshow, app updates, and quickly access your ASUS Tablet’s camera. To change the settings of your lock screen, you may refer to the following information: Selecting a photo 1. Launch the Charms bar > Settings. 2. Select Change PC Settings > Lock screen. 3. Under the Lock screen preview, click Browse to select the photo you would like to use as a background on your lock screen.
Adding app updates 1. Launch the Charms bar > Settings. 2. Select Change PC Settings > Lock screen. 3. Scroll down until you see the Lock screen apps option. 4. Use the following options to add the apps whose updates you would like to see from your lock screen: Activating your ASUS Tablet camera from the lock screen From the lock screen, you can swipe down to activate and use your ASUS Tablet's camera. Refer to the following steps on how to enable this feature: 66 1.
Recovering your system Using recovery options on your ASUS Transformer Book allows you to restore the system to its original state or simply refresh its settings to help improve performance. IMPORTANT! • Back up all your data files before doing any recovery option on your ASUS Transformer Book. • Note down important customized settings such as network settings, user names, and passwords to avoid data loss.
• 68 Advanced startup - Using this option allows you to perform other advanced recovery options on your ASUS Transformer Book such as: - Using a USB drive, network connection or Windows recovery DVD to startup your ASUS Transformer Book. - Using Troubleshoot to enable any of these advanced recovery options: System Restore, System Image Recovery, Startup Repair, Command Prompt, UEFI Firmware Settings, Startup Settings.
Enabling a recovery option Refer to the following steps if you want to access and use any of the available recovery options for your ASUS Transformer Book. 1. Launch the charms bar and select Settings. 2. Select Change PC Settings.
3. Under the PC Settings options, select Update and recovery. 4. Under the Update and recovery options, select Recovery then select the recovery option you would like to do.

Useful tips for your ASUS Tablet To help you maximize the use of your ASUS Tablet, maintain its system performance, and ensure all your data are kept secured, here are some useful tips that you can follow: • Update Windows® periodically to ensure that your applications have the latest security settings. • Use ASUS Live Update to update ASUS-exclusive applications, drivers and utilities in your ASUS Tablet. Refer to the ASUS Tutor installed in your ASUS Tablet for more details.
Hardware FAQs 1. A black dot, or sometimes a colored dot, appears onscreen when I turn on the ASUS Tablet. What should I do? Although these dots normally appear onscreen, they will not affect your system. If the incident continues and subsequently affects system performance, consult an authorized ASUS service center. 2. My display panel has an uneven color and brightness.
4. 5. My battery charge indicator does not light up. What’s wrong? • Check whether the power adapter or battery pack is attached correctly. You may also disconnect the power adapter or battery pack, wait for a minute, then reconnect them again to the power outlet and ASUS Tablet. • If the problem still exists, contact your local ASUS service center for assistance.
7. Why does audio still come out from my ASUS Tablet’s audio speakers even if I already connected my headphone into the right jack port? Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound then access Audio Manager to configure the settings. 8. Instead of showing letters, pressing the “U”, “I”, and “O” keys on my keyboard displays numbers. How can I change this? Press the key or (on selected models) on your ASUS Tablet to turn off this feature and use the said keys for inputting letters. 9.
Software FAQs 1. When I turn on my ASUS Tablet, the power indicator lights up but nothing appears on my screen. What can I do to fix this? You can try doing any of the following suggestions: 2. • Force shutdown your ASUS Tablet by pressing the power button for about ten (10) seconds.
