A LAN is a computer network limited to the immediate area, usually the same building or floor of a building. The LAN screens can help you configure a LAN DHCP server and manage IP addresses. 5.1.
WebShare 144WN 5.2 DNS Server Address DNS (Domain Name System) is for mapping a domain name to its corresponding IP address and vice versa, for example, the IP address of www.atlantis-land.com is 204.217.0.2. The DNS server is extremely important because without it, you must know the IP address of a machine before you can access it. The DNS server addresses that you enter in the DHCP setup are passed to the client machines along with the assigned IP address and subnet mask.
WebShare 144WN is for an ISP to tell a customer the DNS server addresses, usually in the form of an information sheet, when s/he signs up. If your ISP gives you the DNS server addresses, enter them in the DNS Server fields in DHCP Setup, otherwise, leave them blank. Some ISP’s choose to pass the DNS servers using the DNS server extensions of PPP IPCP (IP Control Protocol) after the connection is up.
WebShare 144WN 5.4.1 Factory LAN Defaults The LAN parameters of the ADSL Router are preset in the factory with the following values: IP address of 192.168.1.254 with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 (24 bits) DHCP server enabled with 100 client IP addresses starting from 192.168.1.100. These parameters should work for the majority of installations. If your ISP gives you explicit DNS server address(es), read the embedded web configurator help regarding what fields need to be configured. 5.4.

If set to Disabled, the DHCP server will be disabled. If set to Relay, the ADSL Router acts as a surrogate DHCP server and relays DHCP requests and responses between the remote server and the clients. Enter the IP address of the actual, remote DHCP server in the Remote DHCP Server field in this case.

Wireless LANs can be as simple as two computers with wireless LAN cards communicating in a peer-to-peer network or as complex as a number of computers with wireless LAN cards communicating through access points which bridge network traffic to the wired LAN. WebShare 144WN Wireless MAC Address Filter The MAC filter screen allows you to configure the router to give exclusive access to up to 32 devices (Allow Association) or exclude up to 32 devices from accessing the router (Deny Association). Every Ethernet device has a unique MAC (Media Access Control) address. The MAC address is assigned at the factory and consists of six pairs of hexadecimal characters, for example, 00:AA:BB:00:00:02. You need to know the MAC address of the devices to configure this screen.

See the Wizard Setup chapter for more information on the fields in the WAN screens. 6.2 PPPoE Encapsulation The ADSL Router supports PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet).

WebShare 144WN CHAPTER 7: Network Address Translation (NAT) This chapter discusses how to configure NAT on the WebShare Wireless Router ADSL2+. 7.1 NAT Overview NAT (Network Address Translation - NAT, RFC 1631) is the translation of the IP address of a host in a packet, for example, the source address of an outgoing packet, used within one network to a different IP address known within another network. 7.1.
