Design
The torque converter has a lockup clutch with
integrated torsion dampers.
The torsion dampers reduce torsional vibration
when the torque converter lockup clutch is closed.
This allows the operating range "converter lockup
clutch closed" to be extended.
Basically, distinctions are made between the
following functional states:
converter lockup clutch - open
converter lockup clutch - controlled operation
converter lockup clutch - closed
During normal vehicle operation, the lockup clutch
is engaged in 4th gear and higher (upwards of
speeds of approx. 40 kph).
