You feel the power under the bonnet of the
Audi RS 4 Avant as soon as you start the ignition.
It is generated by the 4.2 litre V8 FSI engine:
this has FSI direct fuel injection technology,
which we brought from the racing track to the
road, and works with our tried-and-trusted
high-rev concept.
FSI technology directly injects the fuel into
the combustion chamber where it is highly
compressed. This produces a very even fuel/air
mixture, leading to particularly efficient
combustion and therefore to better power
delivery and power yield. In addition, the
direct injection serves to cool the inside of
the combustion chambers so that engine
compression can be increased. This results in
advantages for both power output and torque.
Another component for the irresistible power
of the RS 4: the high-rev concept. It provides you
with high power yield per litre of displacement
coupled with even power delivery over the whole
engine speed range. The extremely agile and
free-revving engine reacts immediately and also
produces a rich and full sound.
The high-power engine in the Audi RS 4 Avant
permits engine speed ranges of up to 8,500 rpm.
It reaches its maximum torque of 430 Nm at
engine speeds of between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm,
with at least 90 % of the power available in a
wide engine speed range of between 3,000 and
8,000 rpm. This lets the RS 4 sprint from 0 to
100 km/h in only 4.7 seconds – and then ease to
the 200 km/h mark in a further 11.4 seconds.
The fuel consumption and CO₂ emission figures can be found on page 60.
The high-rev concept in brief:
The agile and free-revving engine
has an extremely large speed
range, accentuated by impressive
engine acoustics. It stands out
through a high power yield and
even power delivery.
