Application Procedure
Key Points
1. Make sure the surface temperatures are between the minimum and maximum
specified.
2. Air surface temperatures should be between the minimum and maximum specified.
3. Position the stripe to the vehicle. Use one of the following methods:
For large pieces or stripes position and hold the graphics on the vehicle. Apply
masking tape to position and hold the graphics on the vehicle. Apply a masking tape
hinge to the piece to further stabilize it to the vehicle.
If the graphics tape is small, freely position and apply the part after liner removal.
4. Remove the liner. The liner is best removed by flicking a corner of the film away
from the liner. Remove the liner at 180 degrees from the marking.
5. For large graphics or long stripes, a wet application method is usually suggested.
After the liner has been removed, liberally spray the adhesive side of the part with
the suggested detergent and water solution. Apply the part to the vehicle as usual,
but be sure to squeegee out all liquid from beneath the graphics.
6. Using a 4-inch plastic squeegee, pressurize the graphics to the vehicle. Use verti-
cal, firm, overlapping strokes. Hold the end of the graphics off the vehicle with light
tension to prevent it from pre-adhering and foaming air bubbles.
7. Remove the application tape from the graphics at a 180-degree angle to the graphic
design. Use a slow constant speed, taking care to avoid pulling against the graphic
areas containing points or sharp corners.
8. Repressurize the entire surface of the tape stripe with the squeegee to obtain
maximum adhesion to the painted area and to remove all air bubbles and wrinkles.
9. Inspect application for bubbles and/or areas not completely pressurized. Remove
bubbles as follows:
10. Use a straight pin or air release tool, puncture the bubble at its edge.
11. Use finger or squeegee to force air out through the hole made in the film.

All SCOTCHAL High Performance Protective 8598/8599 Film

should always be applied wet using a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water.
Maintenance

recommended for use on graphics fabricated with SCOTCHAL. The cleaner chosen
must be:
1. Non - abrasive
2. Neither highly acidic or highly alkaline.
