Mono spinner When the check box is off, the
reflection color component is gra y, and this
spinner lets you adjust the gr ay value.
Fr esne l Clicking the check b ox a second time
displays this option. When ac tive, applies a
Fresnel effect to t he reflection. This c an add
a bit of refraction to the reflecting object,
dependingontheviewingangleoftheobject.
Click the map button to assign a map to the reflect
component. This button is a shor tcut: you can
also assign reflect mapping in the Raytrace Maps
rollout (page 2–1523).
Lumi no si t y Similar to the Standard material’s
self-illumination component, except that it
does not depend on the diffuse color. You can
have a blue diffuse object with red luminosity.
Default=black.
Note: When Luminosity is off, the name of this
control changes to Self-Illum (Self-Illumination).
Lumi no si t y check box When on, the material
uses a luminosity color. When off, the material
uses a spinner to set a g r ayscale va lue only for
self-illumination. Default=on.
Co lor swatchWhen the check box is on, the
color swatch shows the luminosity color. To
change the color, click the swatch and then use
the Color Selector (page 1–161).
Mono spinner When the check box is off, the
luminosity color component is gray, and this
spinner lets you adjust the gr ay value.
Clickthemapbuttontoassignamaptothe
luminosity component. This button is a shortcut:
yo u can also assign reflect mapping in the Raytrace
Maps rollout (page 2–1523).
Tra nspare ncySimilar to the standard material’s
filtercolorfortransmittedlight,combinedwith
the standard material’s opacity controls. This
color filters scene elements that are behind the
object with Rayt r ace material. Black is opaque,
white is fully transparent, and any value in between
filters objects b ehind the raytraced object. A
fully saturated color in both t he diffuse and
transparency components gives the effect of tin t ed
glass.Ifyouwantmoreofanopaquelook,pickthe
color you want as a transparent color, copy it to the
diffusecolor,makethediffusecolorfullysaturated,
and then adjust the transparency to get the effect
you want. Default=black (no transparency).
If raytracing is turned off (in the Raytracer
Controls rollout), the object still refracts the
environment mapping , but ignores other objects
in the scene.
Note: By separating the diffuse, reflect, and
transparency comp onents, Ray trace m aterial gives
you a great deal of control over how the object
reacts to its environment. For example, an object
might diffusely reflect red, specularly reflect green,
and transmit blue. This is not a real-world effect,
butitcanbeuseful.
Transparency Color check box—When on, the
material uses a transparency color. When off,
the material uses a spinner to set a grayscale
value only. Default=on.
Co lor swatchWhen the check box is on, the
color swatch shows the transparency color. To
change the color, click the swatch and then use
the Color Selector (page 1–161).
Mono spinner When the check box is off, the
transparency color component is gray, and this
spinner lets you adjust the gray value.
Clickthemapbuttontoassignamaptothe
transparenc y component. See Filter Color Mapping
(page 2–1503).Thisbuttonisashortcut:youcan
also assign reflect mapping in the Raytrace Maps
rollout (page 2–1523).
Index of Refr. (Refraction)The index of refraction
(IOR) controls how severely the material refracts
transmitted light. At 1.0, the IOR of air, the object
behind the transparent object does not distort. At
