In Dope Sheet > Edit Keys mode, keys are
displayed as a box g rid. Keys that are snapped to
frames are displayed as fil led boxes. Keys that have
been moved with snap frames off are displayed as
narrow rectangles within the grid. When using
the Curve Editor, a similar display is available in
the track bar.
Subframe keys moved with snap frame off
Wa rning: Don’t turn off Snap Frames unless you have a
reason to, suc h as the need for more precise animation
timing. If you do turn off Snap Frames and move k eys in
Curve Editor you will create sub-frame keys, but they
won’t be noticeably different in Curve Editor. In some
cases, sub-frame keys can lead to animation “popping,”
or overly fast changes due to keys being too close
together.
Procedure
To use Snap Frames:
Snap Frames is on by default, s o the following
procedure only applies if you have turned off snap
frames previously.
1. On the Track View Dope Sheet toolbar,
click Edit Keys.
Note: This isn’t an absolute necessity, but it
makes it easier to see the snapping action. You
can also view the snapping in the track bar in
either Dope Sheet or Curve Editor mode.
2. On the Track View toolbar, turn on Snap
Frames.
3. In the Track View Key window, select one or
more keys.

With Snap Frames on, each key in a select ion set
snaps to the nearest frame when the selection is
moved or scaled.

> Track View toolbar > Lock Selection
Keyboard > SPACEBAR
Lock Selection toggles selection locking on and off.
When a selection is locked you can’t inadvertently
deselect or selec t anything else. When a selection
is locked you don’t have to click it to move the
keys, you can click anywhere in the window to
more or scale the keys.
Note: To u se the Spacebar keyboard shortcut, the
Keyboard Shortcut O verride Toggle (page 3–872)
must be on.
Procedure
To us e Lock S election i n Track Vi ew:
1.
In either Dope Sheet or Curve Editor Key
w indow, high light one or more keys.
2. On the Track View toolbar, turn on Lock
Selection, and then click and drag inside the
Track View Key w indow.
All the selected keys move regardless of where
inside the Track View Key window you click
and drag .
