Referenced File)
An XRef in 3ds Max is an externally referenced
file or object. XRefs allow multiple animators and
modelerstoworkononesceneatthesametime
without interfering with each other’s work.

XRef Scene (page 3–407)
TheFile>XRefScenecommandXRefsan
entire scene. For example, a classic use of this
command is to bring in a scene that appears as
a“set”forananimationyoucreate.
XRef Objects (page 3–394)

individual objects or materials. For example,
you might be working on the model of a
building, and fill it with furniture created by
other artists.

ZT File
AZT(.zt) file is a mental ray shadow map file
(page 3–1011). This is a binar y file that the mental
ray renderer uses to accelerate the generation of
shadows. You specify a name and location for the
.zt file on the Render Scene dialog > Renderer
panel > Shadows & Displacemen t rollout (page
3–114).
