Lens Effects Gradients 377
Intensity—
Lets you control the intensity or
brightness of the highlights. Values range f rom 0
to 100. This spinner funct ions only when you are
using e ither the Pixel or User color methods to
cont rol the brightness of the hig h light effect. This
parameter can be animated.

A gradient is a smooth linear transition from one
colororbrightnesstoanother,asshownbelow.
Lens Effects use gradients to control aspects of the
lens flares, such as colors and transparency. Lens
Effects use several gradient types (page 3–379).
Lens Effects Gradients are always interpreted from
left to right.
Gradient Flags
Gradients use Flags to indicate points along the
gradient bar where you want different colors or
brightness values to be. The colors between the
flags are interpolated automatically by Lens Effects.
Each Gradient inside Lens Effects can contain up
to 100 flags. The current flag is highlighted and
green. The position number above the g radient
bar indicates the position of the current flag, in
relation to the ove rall length of the gradient.
A g r adient a lways has non-moveable start and end
flags. You can add up to 98 intermediate flags to
alter the overall appearance of your gradients. You
can a lso change the color or brightness of the end
flags to suit your needs.
When you place two gr adient flags on top of one
another, you create a sharp break in the gr adient.
When a third flag is placed on top of the second
flag, a sharp edge appears in the gradient.
Wa rn in g : When you animate Lens Effects parameters,
this creates pointers into the actual scene, so Lens Effects
animation is lost if you save the Vi deo Post queue in a
VPX file (page 3–1031). To preserve the animation, save
the Video Post data, including Lens Effects animation,
in the MAX file.
Procedures
To add an intermediate flag:
Click the gradient bar where you want to place
the new flag.
The flag uses the color of the gradient at the
poin t where you placed it. To adjust the color ,
double-click to display the Color Selector (page
1–52).
To adjust the position of a fla g:
•Dragtheflagleftorright.
The g radient updates to show you the changes.
To delete a fla g:
Drag the flag outside the gradient bar.
Theflagturnsred,andthemousepoint
changes to a dow n arrow point ing to a bucket.
When you let go of the mouse button, the flag
is deleted.
To change a flag’s proper ties:
