Procedure
To crea t e a n ew s cene:
1.
Choose File > New or press Ctrl+N .
2. In the New Scene dialog, specify the types of
objects to keep, if any.
3. Click OK.

Keep Objects and Hierarchy—Keeps the objects and
the hierarchical links (page 3–951) between them,
but removes any animat ion keys (page 3–960).
Note: Ifthecurrentscenehasanyfilelinks,3dsMax
performs a Bind operation on all linked files.
Keep ObjectsKeeps the objects in the scene,
but removes any links between them and any
animation keys.
Wa rning: This option should not be u sed when work ing
with a scene containing linked or imported objects.
New A ll (Defa ult)—
Clears the contents of the
current scene.
Reset
File menu > Reset
Reset clears all data and resets the program
settings (viewp or t configuration, snap settings,
MaterialEditor,backgroundimage,andsoon).
Resetting restores the startup defaults, saved in the
file maxstart.max,andremovesanycustomization
you mig ht have done during the current session.
Resetting has the same effect as exiting and
restarting 3ds Max.
Tip: To change the startup defaults, start 3ds Max
andmaketheadjustmentsyouwouldliketoseeat
startup. Then save the file to your scenes/ director y
as maxstart.max.
Procedure
IfyouhavemadechangessincethelastSave
operation, a dialog prompts you whether you want
to save your changes.
To reset 3ds Max:
1.
Choose File > Reset.
Ifyouhavemadeanychangessincethelast
Save operation, a dialog prompts you to save
them. As f urther protection against data loss, a
confirmation dialog appears.
2. When ask ed if you really want to reset, click Yes.
Clicking No on this dialog cancels the Reset
operation.

Keyboard > Ctrl+O
Open loads a scene fi le (MA X file), character
file (CHR fi le), or VI Z Render file (DRF File
(page 3–527))fromanOpenFiledialog. You
can also choose a previously opened file and use
command-line options (page 3–671) .
