Conver t S elected Object(s) to XR ef s—Creates a
source file for the currently selected o bjects. This
meansthatyoucanselectobjectsinthecurrent
scene, including their transform controllers and
materials, and then save them to a separate scene
file.ThisfileisthenlistedasanXRefrecordthat
contains the entities you selected.
Note: This option can b e used on both—native
(local) objects or exter nally referenced objects.
IfyouuseitforanobjectthatisalreadyanXRef
object, it creates a nested XRef. Nested XRefs
still behave as you expect, but they can reduce
performance when you open a scene or render it.

Right-click the list of XRef entities (objects and materials).
This contextual menu appears in the XRef Objects
dialog (page 3–397) when you right-click the XRef
Entities list. It provides additional options for
managing the list.
Some of the options on this menu are unavailable
unless you have hi g h lighted an XRef entity.
Inter face
Add Objects—Displays the XRef Merge dialog (page
3–406) so you can add entities to the XRef Entities
list.
If all entities in the source scene are already
externally referenced, this choice has no effect.
Delete XR ef Entit y—Deletes the highlighted XRef
entities from the scene.
An aler t prompts you to confirm the action.
Note: DeletingXRefcontrollersisequivalentto
merging them into the master scene. The reason
for t his is t hat nodes must have a transform
controller at all t imes, in order to be positioned in
the scene. Deleting XRef materials is equivalent to
merging them into the master scene. This ac tion
could impact all objects in the master scene that
use an XR ef material, and could ha ve implications
difficult to be foreseen.
Select—Selects in the scene the XRef entities
currently high lighted in the XRef Entities list.
Select by Name—Opens the Select Objects dialog
(page 1–78), which lists all objects and highlights
the XRef objects selected in the XRef E ntities list.
If an XRef cont roller or XRef material is selected
in the XRef Entities list, the Select Objects d ialog
highlights the object to which the XRef controller
or material belongs to.
Highlight S elected Objects’ XRefs—When XRef
objects are selected in the scene, the XRef record
to which they belong is hig h lighted in the XRef
Record list and the XRef objects and their XRef
entities are highlighted in the XRef Entities list.
Highlight All—Highlights all XRef entities in the
XRef Entities list.
Highlight I nverse—Highlights all XRef entities
in the XRef Entities list except the currently
highlighted XRef entities.
Highlight None—Tu r ns off h ighlighting for a ny
XRef entities currently highlighted in the XRef
Entities list.
List Objects—Toggles the display of XRef objects
for the current XRef record in the XRef Entities list.
List M aterials—Toggles the display of X Ref
materials for the current XRef record in the XRef
Entities list.
List Contr ollers—Toggles the display of XRef
controllers for the current XRef record in the XRef
Entities list.
