XRef Object R ollout
Select an XRef objec t. > Modify panel > XRef Object
rollout
When you’ve selected an XRef object in a scene,
the XRef Object rollout appears along with the
Proxy Object rollout (page 3–414) on the Modify
panel. ThemodifierstackfortheXRefobject
simply displays “XRef Object.
Inter face
These controls let you change the file p ath, file
name, and object name of the source of the XRef
object.
Impor tant: The specified file must contain an object of
the specified name, or no XRef object will appear in your
scene. Instead, a small X appears as a p laceholder.

Click to open the XRef
Objects dialog (page 3–397),withtheselected
object’s record highlighted.
File name field—Displays the path and file name
of the scene file containing the source of the XRef
object. You can edit this to point to a different path
and fi le.
File name display—Displaysthefilenameonly,
w ithout the path.
Path button—Click to display the Open File
dialog from which you can specify a different path
andfilenameforthesourcefile.
Object name field—Displays the name of the source
objectpointedtointhesourcefile.Youcanedit
thenamefieldtoreferenceanotherobject.
Object name dis play Displaysthenameofthe
source object.
Path button—Click to display the XRef Merge
dialog (page 3–406) pointing to the scene in the
XRef File Name field. Here, you can specify a
different object to be used as the XRef object.

Use these controls to specify a low-resolution
object to replace the original XRef object for easier
handling in the viewports, and optionally for test
rendering.
