To change the number of viewpor ts and their
ar r angement:
1.
Right-click any v iewport label. Choose
Configure f rom the r ig ht-click menu.
2. On the Viewport Configuration dialog, click
the Layout tab.
3. Choose a layout from the choices at the top of
the dialog.
4. Assign what each viewport w ill display in the
lower window of the dialog by right-clicking
a viewport representation and choosing from
the right-click menu.
5. Click OK to make the change.
To turn off the world-space tripod in all viewports:
1.
Choose Customize menu > Preferences to
display the Preferences dialog.
2. Click the Viewports tab.
3. In the Viewport Parameters group, turn off
Display World Axis.
4. Click OK to make the change.
To tur n off object-name tooltips:
1.
Choose Customize menu > Preferences to
display the Preferences dialog.
2. Click the General t ab.
3. In the UI Display group, turn off Enable
View por t Tooltips.
4. Click OK to make the change.

The viewport right-click menu, also referred
to as the Viewport Pr operties menu, contains
commands that let you change what is shown
in t he active viewport. This is a shortcut me nu.

Change the view to any available viewport type
(for example, Perspect ive, Top, Bottom, User,
Light, Camera, Grid, or Shape).
When your scene contains cameras or lights
w ith targets, the v iewpor t right-click menu
gives you selection options for the components.
For example, when you right-click the label
ofatargetcameraviewport,youseetwonew
commands, Select Camera and Select Camera
Target, that let you select the camera or target
used by t hat view.
Setthetypeofshadingdisplayedinthe
viewport (for example, Wirefr ame, Smooth,
or Edged Faces).
S et how transparency is displayed in the
view por t.
Undo or redo a v iew change.
Turnontexturecorrectionifyourdisplayisnot
configuredforOpenGLorDirect3D.
Disable a viewport so it doesn’t upda te when
you work in other viewports.
Toggle the display of the grids, safe frame, and
view por t background.
Note: Agridobjectmustbeactivebeforeyou
canselectitfromitsviewport.
Display the Asset Browser, Schematic View or
MAXScript Listener in a viewport.
Turn on Viewport Clipping. This interact ively
setsanearandfarrangefortheviewport.
Geometr y within the viewport clipping range
is displayed. Faces outside the range are not
displayed.
Tip: If the viewpor t right-click menu becomes
disabled, you can restore it by refreshing the UI
scheme. Use Customize menu > Load Custom
UI Scheme (page 3–805) to load a different CUI
