NURBS Surface 981
A NURBS object (page 3–980) consisting of one or
more sub-objects. The 3 ds Max docum entation
uses "NURBS model" to emphasize the final result
of NURBS modeling using a variety of sub-objects
and techniques.

Obj ect
An assortment of geometric primitive objects
"Object" means an object in the scene, such as
primitive geometry like boxes and spheres, more
complex geometry such as Booleans, and so on.
Geometric objects are renderable. A scene can
also contain non-renderable objects such as lights,
cameras, helpers, and space warps.
You add objects to a scene by selecting the Create
menu or from the Create panel.

In 3ds Max, an instance is a completely
interchangeablecloneoftheoriginalobject.
Modifying an instanced object is the same as
modify ing the or iginal.
Instances are not only alike in geometr y, but also
share modifiers and materials. When you change
one instance by applying a modifier, for example,
all the other instances change with it.
Each instance has its own set of transforms, object
properties, and space war p bindings. These are
not shared among instances.
Within 3ds Max, i nstances derive from the same
master object. What you’re doing is applying a
single modifier to a single master object. In the
viewport,whatyouseeasmultipleobjectsare
multiple instances of the same definit ion.
For example, if you wanted to create a school
of swimming fish, you might beg in by making
many instanced copies of a single fish. You could
then animate the swimming motion by applying
a Ripple modifier to any fish in the school. The
whole school would swim with exac tly the same
motions.

Object motion blur applies a blur effect to
make fast-moving objects appear to move more
smoothly i n animations. It is a form of "temporal
antialiasing."
