1162 Chapter 9: Surface Modeling
Creating chamfers between two original curves
Procedure
To create a chamfer cur v e:
1.
In a NURBS object that contains at least
two curves, turn on Chamfer.
Tip: Make sure the curves intersect before you
begin to create th
echamfer.
2. Click one curve nea
r the end that you want
to connect. The end that will b e connected
is highlighted. Without releasing the mouse
button, drag to th
e end of the other curve that
youwanttoconnect.Whentheendthatwill
be connected is h ighlighted, release the m ouse
button.
Achamfercurve
is created. Changing the
position or the curvature of either parent cur ve
can change the chamfer a s well.
The parent curves must be coplanar. The
chamfer is not
necessarily connected at the
endpoints of the parent curves: you can
adjust its position with the chamfer’s Length
parameters.
3. Adjust the ch
amfer parameters.

Chamfer Curve rollout (creatio n time)
The lengths are t he dist ances f rom the intersection
(or apparent intersection) at which the chamfer
segment is d rawn.
Lengt h 1 Thedistancealongthefirstcurveyou
click.
This parameter is animatable.
Lengt h 2 Thedistancealongthesecondcurve
you click.
This parameter is animatable.
Some length values make it impossible to construc t
the chamfer. If you set t he length to an invalid
value, the chamfer returns to a default position and
is displayed in the error color (orange by default).
TrimFirstCurveandTrimSecondCurvegroups
These two group boxes let you control how the
parent curves are trimmed. The controls are the
same in each. "First" and "second" refer to the
order in which you picked the parent curves.
