To create straight stairs:
1.
In any viewport, drag to set the length. Release
the mouse button, then mov e the cursor and
click to set the width you want.
2. Movethecursorupordowntodefinetherise
of the stairs, and click to end.
3. Adjustthestairswiththeoptionsinthe
Parameters rollout.
Inter face
Parameters rollout > Type group
Open—Createsanopenriserstairasshownonthe
left of the illustration above.
Clo sed Creates a closed riser stair as shown in the
center of the illustration above.
Box—Creates a stair with closed risers and closed
str ingers on both sides as shown on the right of the
illustration above.
Generate Geometry group
Stringers—Createsstringersalongtheendsof
the treads of the sta irs. To modify the stringers
depth, width, offset and spring f rom the floor, see
Stringers rollout (page 1–241).
Carri ag eCreates an inclined, notched beam
under the treads which supports the steps or adds
support between the stringers of the stairs. You
mightalsoknowthisasacarriage piece, ahorse,or
a rough string.SeeCarriage rollout (page 1–242) to
modify the parameters.
Handrail—Createsleftandrighthandrails. See
Railings rollout (page 1–242) to modify the
handrails height, offset, number of segments, and
radius.
Rail Path—Createsleftandrightpathsyoucanuse
to install railings on the stairs. S ee Stairs (page
1–231) for the instructions on how to do this.
Layout group
Lengt h—Cont rols the length of the stairs.
WidthControls the width of the stairs.
Rise group
3dsMaxkeepsoneRiseoptionlockedwhileyou
adjust the other two. To lock an option, you click a
push pin. To unlock an option you click a raised
push pin. 3ds Max locks the spinner value of the
parameterwiththedepressedpushpinandallows
the spinner values of the p arameter with the raised
push pins to change.
Overall—Cont rols the height of the flight of stairs.
Riser HtControls the height of the risers.
