For w ard, Backward, and Sideways Movement

or letters at the left of the keyboard pad.
Tip: When you are in a Perspective viewport,
you can use Undo View Change and Redo View

your navigation. Ho wever, when you are in
aCameraviewport,walkthroughanimation
transforms the camera object, s o you must use Edit
>UndoandEdit>Redo(
Ct rl +Z and Ctrl+Y ).
Holding down any of these keys causes the motion
to be continuous.
Forward— W or the Up Ar row .Movesthe
camera or the v iewpoint forward.
Note: If you are not already in walkthrough
navigation mode, pressing
Up Arrow enters it.
Back S or Down Arrow .Movesthecameraor
the viewp oint backward.
When you are in a camera viewport, Forward and
Back are equivalent to dolly ing in or out.
Lef t A or Left Ar row .Movesthecameraor
the view point to the left.
Right D or Rig ht Ar row .Movesthecamera
or the viewpoint to the right.
When you are in a camera viewport, Left and
Right are equivalent to tr ucking left or right.
Up— E or Shi f t +Up Arrow . Moves the camera
or the viewpoin t up.
Down— C or Shi f t +Down Ar row .Movesthe
camera or the v iewpoint down.
Acceleration and Deceleration
Acceler a te Toggle and D ecelera te Toggle—Pressing
Accelerate (
Q )causesmotiontobequicker.
Pressing Decelerate (
Z )causesmovementtobe
slower. These controls are toggles: pressing the
key a second time restores the default motion rate
(and pressing the a lternate key turns off the first).
They are especially useful when you are navigating
by holding down keys.
The acceleration and deceleration toggles are
independent of the step size.
Adjusting Step Size
Increas e S tep Siz e a nd D ecrease Step Si ze—Pressing
Increase Step Size (
] )increasesthemotion
increments when you move the camera or
viewpoint. Pressing Decrease Step Size (
[ )
reduces them. You can press either of these
shortcuts repeatedly, to increase the effect.
Changingthestepsizeisapparentwhenyou
navigate either by sing le clicks, or by holding down
keys. Stepsizechangesareusefulforadjusting
move ment to the scale of the scene. They are saved
with the MAX file.
Reset Step Size—Pressing Reset Step Size ( Alt+[ )
restoresthestepsizetoitsdefaultvalue.
The step size is independent of acceleration or
deceleration.
Rotation (Tilting)
Tilt V iew—Click+drag to ti lt the camera or
view point.
Whenyouareinacameraviewport,TiltViewis
equivalent to p anning the camera.
Increase Rotation Sensitiv ity and Decrease R otation
Sensitivity—
Pressing Increase Rotation Sensitivity
(no default key) i ncreases the motion increments
when you use Tilt View. Pressing Decrease
Rotation Sensitivity (no default key) decreases
them. You can press either of these shortcuts
repeatedly, to increase the effect. They are useful
for adjusting movement to the scale of the s cene.
