Collisions group
Use these settings to determine w hich objects hair
collides with during a dynamic simulation and the
method by which collision is calc ulated.
None—Collisions are not considered during the
dynamic simulation. This can cause the hair
to penetrate its growth object as well as other
objects it comes in to contact with.
Sphere—Hair uses a spherical bounding box
to calculate collisions. This method is faster
because it requires less computation, but can
cause inaccurate results. It’s most effective
when the hair is seen from a distan ce.
Polygon—Hair considers each polygon in the
collision objects. This is the slowest method,
but the most accurate.
Use G rowth Object—When on, hair collides with
the g rowth (mesh) object.
Objects list—Liststhenamesofsceneobjectswith
which hair should collide.
Add—To add an object to the list, click Add and
then click the object in a viewport.
Replace—To replace an object, highlight its name
in the list, click Replace, then click a different
object in a viewport.
Delete—To remove an object, hig h light its name in
the list, then click Delete.
External Forces group
This group lets you specify space warps (page
2–55) that will affect the hai r dur ing the dynamics
simulation. For example, you can add a Wind
space warp (page 2–75) to ca use the hair to be
blown by a breeze.
Note: Hair dynamics already has a built-in gravity
force, so it’s not necessary to add one.

dynamically affect the hair.
Add—To add a space warp to the list, click Add and
then click the warps icon in a viewport.
Replace—Toreplaceaspacewarp,highlightits
name in the list, click Replace, then click a different
warp’s icon in a viewport.
Delete—To r e m ove a s p a c e war p, hi g h l i g ht i t s
name in the list, then click Delete.

These settings let you control how hairs and guides
display in the view ports. By default, Hair displays a
small percentage of the hairs as lines. Alternatively,
you can display the hairs as geometry, and you can
also choose to display the guides.

Display Guides group
Display Gui des toggle—When on, Hair displays
guides in the viewp orts, using the color shown in
the color swatch. Default=off.
Note: At the Guides sub-object level, guides a lways
appear in the viewports.
