628 Chapter 8: Modifiers
Procedure
To use the delete spline modifier:
1.
Create a shape that contains multiple splines.
2. Apply a Spline Select modifier (page 1–831) and
select a section of the spline for deletion.
3. Apply a Delete Spline modifier to delete the
section.
To undo the deletion, remove the Delete
Spline modifier .
Inter face
This modifier has no parameters.

Disp Approx
The Disp Approx modifier (shor t for Displacement
Approximation) lets you make the displacement
mappingsettingsonanobjectinthemodifier
stack (page 3–760).Itconvertsitsinputobject
to an editable mesh (page 1–996),soyoucanuse
this modifier to add displacement mapping to
geometr y primitives (page 1–170) and a ny other
kind of object that can convert to an editable mesh.
Using an image to displace the surface of a cylinder
Displacement mapping (page 2–1511) uses a map
to change surface geometry. You apply the map
using the Material Editor (page 2–1409).
You don’t need to apply this modifier to NURBS
(page 1–1078) surfaces, patches (page 1–993),
editable meshes (page 1–996),oreditable
polymeshes (page 1–1022),becauseyoucanapply
displacement mapping directly to these kinds of
objects.
Procedure
To apply displacement mapping:
1.
Select an object other than a NURBS surface,
patch, editable mesh, or editable poly.
2. Apply the Disp Approx modifier .
Now yo u can apply displacement mapping
to the object. The Displacement Approx.
rollout has parameter that you can adjust, but
displacement mapping will work using the
default settings.
3. Go to the Material Editor. Apply a
Standard material to the object.
