Procedure
To select usi ng a regi on (gener al method):
1.
Choose a Selection Reg ion method from the
flyout.
2. Drag in a v iewport, then release the mouse.
The first location you click is one corner of the
rectangle, and where you release the mouse is
theoppositecorner.
Impor tant: If you’re using Select Object (page 1–77),
you can start dragg ing anywhere to select a region:
on an object or off. However, if you’re using one of
the trans form tools, such as Select and Move (page
1–439), start the drag operation away from an object;
that is, in an empty part of the viewport. Otherwise,
if you start dragging on an object, most likely t he
software will assume you intend to select where
you click a nd will be gin the transform operation
immediately.
To cancel the selection, right-click before you
release the mouse.
Selection Filter List
Main toolbar > Selection Filter
The Selection Filter list lets you restrict to specific
types and combinations of objects that can be
selected by the select ion tools. For example, if you
choose Cameras, you can selec t only cameras with
the selection tools. Other objects do not respond.
When you need to select objects of a cer t ain ty p e,
this is useful as a quick method of freezing all other
objects.
Use the drop-down list to select a single filter .
Choose Combos from the drop-down list to use
multiple filters from the Filter Combinations dialog
(page 1–81).

Combinations dialog
Use the Filter C ombinations dialog to create your
own custom combinations of categories to add to
the Selection Filters list (page 1–81).
You can also add specific types of objects, or Class
IDs, to the list. For example, you can set a filter
that lets you select only Sphere primitives.
Procedures
To crea te a combi na t ion f il t er :
1.
Open the Selection Filter list and choose
Combos.
The Filter Combinations dialog appears.
2. Turn on one or more of the check bo x es in the
Create Combination group.
3. Click the Add button.
The specified combination appears in the
CurrentCombinationslisttotherightasa
combination of the first letters of each selected
category.
4. Click OK.
