710 | Chapter 24 Link and Embed Data (OLE)
An AutoCAD drawing embedded in a document can be edited only from the
container application. Editing the original drawing in AutoCAD has no effect
on documents in which that drawing is embedded.
Edit OLE Objects When AutoCAD Is the Container Application
Clicking inside an OLE object selects it, even when the OLE object is behind
an AutoCAD object. To select the overlapping AutoCAD object, you must
suppress the selection of the OLE object by using the shortcut menu.
AutoCAD editing commands and snap modes do not operate on OLE objects.
To resize and scale OLE objects, use OLE grips. You can also cut, copy, edit, or
clear an OLE object using the shortcut menu that is displayed when you
select an OLE object by right-clicking your pointing device. Use the shortcut
menu also to control the drawing order, display, and selectability of OLE
objects.

To edit a linked drawing from within the container application
1 Open the document that contains the linked AutoCAD drawing (for
example, a Microsoft Word file).
2 Double-click the linked drawing.
The drawing opens in AutoCAD.
3 Modify the drawing as necessary.
4 From the AutoCAD File menu, choose Save to save the changes to the
drawing.
5 From the AutoCAD File menu, choose Exit to return to the container
application.
The drawing is changed in all documents that have links to it.
How the link is updated depends on the container application. Some
applications support automatic updating of links; others require manual
updating of links. In many applications, you can choose between manual
and automatic link updating.
To edit a linked drawing in AutoCAD
1 Start AutoCAD and open the linked drawing.
2 Modify the drawing and view as necessary.
3 From the AutoCAD File menu, choose Save to save the changes to the
drawing in AutoCAD.
4 Update the link in the compound document if necessary.
