1. Introduction Using a Power over Ethernet (PoE) Layer 2 switch, IP telephones are supplied power over the last pair of CAT-5 cable that connects them to the switch. This eliminates the need for a separate power supply to power the telephone. For this to work, the port the telephone is connected to must support Power over Ethernet or have a power adapter placed in series between the switch port and the telephone. The Layer 2 switches are Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) and comply with the IEEE 802.

2. Configurations Figure 1 below shows the physical connection between the Avaya 4600 Series IP Telephones, Avaya 9600 Series One-X Deskphones, and the Samsung UbigateTM iBG-3026 which has the LMP-20 PoE blade. 3.

IEEE 802.3af PoE Implementation on the Avaya IP Telephones and Samsung UbigateTM iBG-3026. Table 2 lists the detected IEEE 802.3af class and measured power of the Avaya IP Telephones when connected to the iBG LMP20 PoE blade.

Configuring and Verifying Inline Power on the Samsung UbigateTM iBG-3026 The Samsung UbigateTM iBG-3026 Integrated Services Router provides three kinds of power; they are the AC power, AC with PoE power, and DC with PoE power. Any combination of the three kinds of power can be mounted to any of the 2 power module slots available.

7. Conclusion These Application Notes describe how to configure the Samsung UbigateTM iBG3026 Integrated Services Router with Power Over Ethernet LMP-20 blade to provide inline power to the Avaya 4600 Series IP Telephones and 9600 Series IP Telephones. With proper configuration, all the Avaya IP Telephones receive inline power from the Samsung UbigateTM iBG-3026 Integrated Services Router with LMP-20 PoE blade and operated successfully. 8.
